Police in Minami-Alps, Yamanashi Prefecture, have arrested a 33-year-old female elementary school teacher on suspicion of stalking a male acquaintance.
According to police, Saki Sodeno, who is employed at a public elementary school, is accused of stalking the man, who is in his 40s, on two separate occasions this month, local media reported. Police said Sodeno went to the man’s home uninvited on January 9 and 15.
The man had consulted with police last year about being stalked by the woman and police had issued her a warning. Police said that following her arrest on Monday, the woman has been making vague statements about her actions, saying she wasn’t stalking.

Given a typical primary school teacher's workload, it's amazing she had the time to carry this out.

When a woman did this to me, all my friends laughed and joked about it. I wonder if I was a woman, would all my friends laugh and joke about it?

Yes, that’s indeed interesting. But it’s just considering the level of intrinsic natural behavior causing that criminal energy and the probability for ending the stalking. You can easily stop a woman stalking with an impressive temporary prison arrest. But nothing will stop a male stalker, neither multiple warnings nor prison shorter than lifelong. And therefore men are only warned, hoping they stop eventually, but you simply can’t lock away half of the potential stalker population, men are still quite somewhat needed in many branches of industry, manufacturing, defense and many other businesses, aren’t they? lol

@Mumbai rocks
I would say it’s more 50-50 and the rare part would be men feeling intimidated enough to go to the police.
Meaning female stalkers are less likely to be reported to the police than male stalkers.

Witness said he heard screams around 6pm

A co-worker said he was getting stalked by one of his clients and I got jealous. Then he described her and I felt really sorry for the guy.

Came to say the same thing, MumbaiRocks!. Glad the woman was rightly arrested for stalking, but I find it interesting that when the stalker is a man, the police just shake their heads at it and say "shouga nai" while doing nothing. And then we hear about another innocent victim murdered by their stalker. Why is that?

“Rare for a female but it happens.“ So, are there any statistics to back this up or is this nothing more than conjecture underpinned by the fashionable Marxist notion that gender can be delineated into two separate classes of oppressed and oppressor and never the twain shall meet? Just a random thought.

Something doesn't add up in this story, did they had a relationship prior ? how did she know where he lives? Did he Lure her ? I just don't see her risking her work for this! but then again Love Is Blind sometimes!!!!!?

At 33 years she must have been very, very interested in a forty plus years man to be stalking him. If the man's age was 41 closer to hers by seven years, she could have summoned up enough courage to approach him directly. And, if he was in his late forties she might have wanted to take a closer look to make sure he has no wrinkles on his face. And if he had, she could have been looking for a father figure. But, in any case, she was definitely very interested in the man. Is stalking a crime jn Japan?
Strangerland
The answer to your question is inherent in the article title. What would they have arrested her for if it wasn't?
Stephen Chin
Strangerland,
There *are* countries in the world where stalking is *not* a crime because it is a very minor felony and, the police have *more* serious crimes to attend to. And many stalkers do not even know it is a crime because they think that stalking is *fun*.Strangerland
Does the article title not make it clear that it's an arrestable crime? I'm not sure how you could read the title and not understand it to be a crime - how could they have arrested her for something not a crime?

Its not rare for this to happen! I think many men just don't talk about it too much because nobody would take us seriously. But in any other country, if it happened once to a woman, that man would be in serious problems. Not in Japan. Man, woman, boy, girl, the police don't take stalking too serious until something drastic like death happens.
