Disturbing story!

21 ( +23 / -2 )

Life imprisonment would have been more appropriate.

24 ( +31 / -7 )

10 years!?!?!?!?!?!?!

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Full physical castration should have been considered as an option to help minimise the chance this animal will offend when he is released. He should be monitored permanently.

14 ( +23 / -9 )

If there is one country that needs a national child sex offenders' list it is Japan!

12 ( +38 / -26 )

He'll still be a pedo when he gets out...

23 ( +28 / -5 )

he would "have no connection with children in the future

Yes, because he’s going to be in JAIL for a quarter century.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Any luck he won't make it out alive. Disgusting piece of ...

4 ( +12 / -8 )

So he gets 20 years while his victims and their families get scarred for life.

15 ( +19 / -4 )

20 years? Just hang him!

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

Castrate him. Or since Japan still has a death penalty, a good hanging wouldn’t go amiss. Then he won’t go near children again. Worry solved.

The government puts Camera on every street corner , major roads, buildings, institutions, to protect assets and properties and yet they can't put cameras in Nurseries and elementary schools to protect the most valuable assets of all, the future generation.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

I am just thankful they didn't add the usual, "suspended for 5 years."

8 ( +11 / -3 )

I have no words...absolutely none. The sad truth is that I am not at all surprised. How many stories here do we hear of pedophiles taking childcare jobs only to get close to and then abuse the children in their charge? It feels like a near-daily thing, and yet nothing ever changes. WHY? 20 years might be a just sentence for him, given he sexually assaulted 20 boys. But in my opinion, given the trauma he likely put them through, he deserves life in prison. He stole a piece of the lives of 20 children before they even had a chance to become adults. He should never be allowed near children ever again, even if that means not being able to be in public. I hope those boys are able to recover, that they won't be traumatized. Just unimaginable...

It was his fourth arrest by the way.

Unfortunately it is this otherwise beautiful country that we chose to live in where pedophiles seem to be allowed ample power in public. I mean, no sex offender registry here yet. Even after stories like this one all the time. It is a true shame.

not to mention the majority of child porn comes from Japan...the enjokosai and papakatsu culture... and this guy wants to tell us that Japan is more serious about child sexual abuse than the west.

What a joke.

-10 ( +13 / -23 )

The LAST person I would hire as a baby sitter to watch my kid is a random Japanese male that I don’t know. Why would people hire this guy?

6 ( +13 / -7 )

Most pedos and chomos don't last very long in Western prisons. Hopefully in Japan its the same. I doubt they report it in Japan like they do in the west when someone gets a beating. Seems like he is still in denial though. How does "forcible sexual intercourse" become "close physical contact"?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Shogun36....

Exactly! I may be a little old fashioned but a 24 year old guy baby sitter just sets off alarm bells in my head.

And yes, he had 4 previous convictions.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

I think he should be either executed or castrated.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Four previous convictions?! So much for his lawyer’s assertion that he has a low chance of reoffending.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

The government puts Camera on every street corner , major roads, buildings, institutions, to protect assets and properties and yet they can't put cameras in Nurseries and elementary schools

@Mark

There are already cameras for sure in nurseries and I believe in a lot of Japanese elementary schools.

Also nurseries have normally no closed room or door without windows, same for toilets with cubicles not going up to the ceiling. At least that is the case for licensed nurseries.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Castration doesnt work on sex offenders because the offending ideation lies in the brain.

There's all sorts of sex abuse that doesnt rely on penile penetration .

There are a number of drugs that are used on chronic sex offenders, plus heavy psychological oversight.

Parents should put hidden cameras in the kids bedroom, monitor changes in behaviour, and probably hire female baby sitters.

I agree but in this day and age, it will be sexist to simply open the baby sitting job to one gender.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Cut off his gullies and life in prison. It will give closure to the victims. Otherwise when he is 51 years old, he will be prowling around kindergartens.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Life imprisonment would have been more appropriate.

A rope and a chair IMO.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

I am just thankful they didn't add the usual, "suspended for 5 years."

"I was drunk at the time and can't remember, your honor."

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

I don’t get the mentality behind pedophiles. I’ve worked in day cares and preschools in the past. The kids are annoying and then sometimes they make you laugh. You make sure they don’t choke at snack time and then see them off to their parents at pick up time. Why would there be any sexual attraction? The guy is sick and probably damaged these kids for life.

Remember what you said, the next time you have a choice between hiring a Japanese male or female babysitter.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

20 years per child would be more appropriate.

" and did not constitute a crime. They also said he has a "low chance of reoffending

Yeah, no. This defence doesn't have a wobbly leg to stand on considering how how this piece of trash has been abusing kids for years. 20 years isn't nearly enough to compensate his victims who will be scarred and carry trauma born from his despicable actions for the rest of their lives. He should be chemically or physically castrated and tossed in gen pop of an American prison. See how long he lasts because those men don't take too kindly to pedos.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

If I had been sexually involved at a young age and told it was okay by the perpetrator. I don't think I would be scarred, until society told me it was wrong and I was a victim. then I would live in shame. Imagine if society had said nothing and abuse victims just lived a normal life, not worried about how society shamed them, there secret eating them from the inside.

I'm not saying that american christians ethics are harmful. But just that this sentiment might put a lot of burden on the victim and can cause more 10000x more harm than the act.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Prosecutors said in their closing arguments that Hashimoto's "extremely contemptible" actions as a licensed nursery teacher had "hugely damaged public trust" in the profession.

"Extremely contemtible!" seems a polite phrasing for the actions of this scum.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

should be life no parole and no chance for him to harm children anymore.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

the tip of the iceberg.

sex or violence abuse licensed nurses are everywhere.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

spidey - such a brilliant idea, 100% for it. 400 sounds better than life

If I had been sexually involved at a young age and told it was okay by the perpetrator. I don't think I would be scarred, until society told me it was wrong and I was a victim.

You weren't, so you do not know. I guess from your PoV those victims of abuse that is never revealed until much later go on to live perfectly happy and peaceful lives...

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I am feeling a little ill after reading this.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I'm glad they caught him. 20 years is too light.

He'll still be a pedo when he gets out...

I guess you meant "pedofile." Pedo is something that gets blown in the wind. I hope the government is listening so they inact a mandatory sex offender registration law.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

If I had been sexually involved at a young age and told it was okay by the perpetrator. I don't think I would be scarred, until society told me it was wrong and I was a victim.

You're assuming you will be the same as you are now only with some experiences that you don't know were unusual or bad.

Past experiences shape your behavior, your experience could have influenced you to become a pedophile yourself.

Don't know if that qualifies as scarred to you.

A licensed nursery school teacher, he had found some of his victims by registering on an app that connects baby sitters with families, highlighting the difficulties of keeping pedophiles away from such services.

Such services (babysitting app) doesn't seem to be the only problem—looks like they're getting through a lax nursery school Licensure too.

Prosecutors had demanded that the Tokyo District Court sentence Akinori Hashimoto to 25 years in prison, while the defense argued that 10 years was proportionate.

While I abhor his conduct, the defence attorney seems as weak as the parliamentary opposition. The defence should advocate for their client, no matter how bad.

Why would there be any sexual attraction? The guy is sick and probably damaged these kids for life.

Some people are attracted to sheep, some are attracted to trees. Sometimes the wiring isn't right.

Perhaps a system needs to be in place for retraining to a new occupation that doesn't involve contact with kids (or sheep and trees in my other examples). If not, the state (taxpayers) will be funding the offenders in prison and after prison.

@Fighto!

Doesn't stop you getting a boner if you castrate an adult. Castration doesn't involve removal of the penis only the testicles. Like farm animals it needs to be done while they are newborns. Best bet to minimise the chance of him re-offending when he is released is to re-educate and dope him

You'd think that after the first conviction this guy would be unhireable. Do these places properly vet their prospective hires? I guess the answer is no. After four convictions, it's time to send him to see the hangman to make sure he definitely won't do it again.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This is one case were I respect the U.S. style of prison justice... guys like this generally wind up 6 feet under pretty quickly and rightfully so.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Come on this guy gets 20 years in prison for sex abuse but there have been cases where mothers and or bf killed their kids and get 3-5 years suspended sentences. It obvious the guy needs help but does the crime fit the punishment? What I mean is this guy is a mental case but you have people who murder kids in Japan and get lesser sentences?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Guys like him make me very suspicious of any male in a similar position....which is wrong of course.....he should be hung up by his balls

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

This was from (2) years ago, same guy...https://www.tokyoreporter.com/crime/babysitter-accused-of-raping-elementary-school-boy-arrested-in-2nd-case/

A woman wouldn't do this....I think license should be given only to women for nursery schools.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

What a vile and repulsive excuse for a human being. Remember everyone, that many who go into professions which involve children are paedophiles. Kindergartens, children’s groups like the scouts are places these monsters are known to frequent.

Worldwide, children are lacking protection from sexual and physical abuse, it doesn’t seem to be a big priority which is a crying shame.
