A 30-year-old former Buddhist monk has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing a 37-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her apartment in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, last December.
The Matsuyama District Court heard that Yoshinori Kurumi, a monk at Chokenji temple in Tokushima city, fatally stabbed Miki Kuroda in the neck with a survival knife on Dec 15, Fuji TV reported.
Kuroda had met Kurumi during one of her frequent trips to Tokushima for work.
Kurumi confessed to the crime. Police said he had driven his car to Matsuyama, killed Kuroda, and then returned home after throwing the knife into the sea.

Whats that got to do with being an ex-Buddhist monk? Will the title be "Ex-Plummer kills woman"? Seems strange, what does religion have to do with it?

That's why he's an ex monk.

Yeah, he was. Obviously he didn't attain "enlightenment." In fact, his mind became even more polluted. One of the pillars of Buddhism is acknowledging that desire leads to "suffering"-

let's assume the guy is just plain messed up in the head.

"let's assume, simply because Kuroda didn't like Kurmi or vice versa (!)"
On the contrary, (former monk) Kurumi wanted (victim) Kuroda; if he could not have her, then no-one could have her!

let's assume, simply because Kuroda didn't like Kurmi or vice versa (!)

So, yet another case where I just don't get it. Why does this guy only get 16 years for killing this woman?! Clearly it was intentional, clearly it was premeditated. Why does he only get 16 years rather than a life sentence or at least something longer than 16 years?!
I sure hope his having been a Buddhist monk didn't result in some sort of leniency! Just saying...
nakanoguy01
uh, so why did he kill her? seems like crucial info about this article, don't you think?
