The Tokyo District Court ordered a sentence of 18 months in prison for Fuyuhiko Nishikida, 63, and 16 months for Yoshiki Tsuji, 57. Both of their sentences were suspended for three years.

How long were they in detention for? What a waste of time and resources, basically a get out of jail free card for big business.

Don’t kid yourselves. This is standard practice for anyone trying to do business in Asia. Just don’t get caught will be the lessson learned.

Mitsubishi is one of the most corrupt conglomerates in Japan. My grandfather, whose job with USAID was to prevent bribery, frequently complained. Too bad the sentences were suspended; Japan needs to get serious about this.

I was surprised reading that part. "Finally", I thought. But then

I guess I got surprised too soon.

@Strangerland It is interesting that rich countries regardless of political leanings punish bribery so lightly or not at all, mate.
