Ex-firefighter arrested over 10 arson incidents; says he did it to ease stress

Police in Inashiki, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 42-year-old ex-firefighter on suspicion of arson in 10 incidents.

Police said Akira Suzuki is accused of setting fire to two vacant wooden houses, a warehouse and seven forest areas on privately owned land, burning a total of 4,700 square meters, between January 2023 and August 2024, Sankei Shimbun reported.

According to police, Suzuki has admitted to the allegation and said he set the fires to relieve stress.

Suzuki joined the city's fire brigade in April 2010.

In other news today more and more psychedelic substance is being criminalize in Japan. Perhaps it can used to ease his stress.
