I can understand how this woman is justifiably outraged and Komano should definitely face the consequences of his actions, but acute stress reaction? Really? I wonder if it's a disservice to women to appear so fragile.

Yes, really. How do you honestly think someone would someone would react, if someone larger and physically imposing used their physical power as well as their higher status to repeatedly intimidate them into staying silent as they trapped them and then touched them sexually.

Your stomach drops. You sweat. Your brain freezes. You can't move, you can't think, you panic. Then your survival instincts kick in, telling you to cooperate or else you will be severely injured or even killed.

Afterwards, the sexual assault can cause PTSD, panic attacks, and phobias, among other symptoms. It's not something one can easily shake off or get over quickly. Even mild attacks, like being catcalled or groped on the street can give you serious issues and make you afraid to walk alone at night or afraid to take a crowded subway.

I think this shows that people still, even in the #metoo era, don't really quite understand how sexual assault really effects people. And not just women, either - if you think men react differently, then you need to read up on the subject.

there are a lot of japanese who abide by their culture of singling out, bullying, harassment, and sick perversion. they should round up all those dangerous people there who do such attacks on anyones freedom like that.

Ambassadors shouldn’t sexually abuse staff. Ambassadors are the highest level of representation for a country overseas. If the ambassador sexually abused the woman and no punishment, then the message to the world is that old Japanese men have a right to sexually abuse women anywhere in the world. He is a disgrace to japan.

No one should sexually abuse staff, and yet Japanese men get aware with it all the time! And until the education system here teaches both boys and girls about it, you can forget there ever being any changes!

Took this long because prosecutors probably thought the woman here was guilty too!

Lawyer speak - the woman's looking for compo, probably supplemental to what was paid at the time.

A lot of these oyajis act entitled around women, and especially young women, but there is a certain kind of woman who will use her feminine charms to influence men - particularly ones in positions of power. The fact that she is still after money makes me wonder whether he didn't perform his part of the bargain.

If evidence is existing, he should be jailed.

He will never be as a diplomat, so protected against any legal action against him outside murders.

In February 2013, he was verbally reprimanded by the Japanese Foreign Ministry, which acknowledged his behavior amounted to a sexual offense.

What? His behavior amounted to a sexual offense but he was only verbally reprimanded? And you wonder why there is so much sekuhara in Japan. Well there's your answer.

Oh, so now she sees and opportunity for a pay out. She just wants money.

Either that, or he sexually assaulted her.

Verbally reprimanded? WTF, oh right, "old boys network", .....

Zero tolerance is not in the vocabulary here!

Seven years ago and this is just now getting filed? Who wants to bet this gets settled out of court for an undisclosed sum?
