When the governmental and corporate powers have the level of control it appears they have over media in Japan, corruption is to be expected. What's even more worrying is that the Japanese electorate do not seem to be fussed about corruption so they continue to ignore scandals, and vote back into office politicians with lengthy shady histories. Of course, Japan is not unique in that. A freer-media unafraid to do investigative work to try to expose misdoings could at least make citizens more aware of corruption, as could independent oversight organizations. TV here seems to have weekly scenes of men wearing white shirts carrying sealed cardboard boxes to a van, then later shows a scene of some men bowing in apology, then that news is dropped and people forget about it. Still that seems much better to me than what must go on behind the scenes in countries like China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia and other nations where an autocrat controls all information and media.

Interesting timing with former-PM Abe no longer around to keep prosecutors at bay.
Without a question many of the elite who supported the Tokyo bid who are guilty of bribery or asking for bribes are sad he is no longer around.

Why is this even news? There has always been a high level of corruption at every modern Olympics.

Expect a suspended sentence, and a stadium full of 'sorrimasens' if this ever goes to trial; if they manage to find any real evidence, and if they manage to get a conviction.

All stinks.
Takeda - the great grandson of the Meiji Emperor - will never be truly investigated and or prosecuted.
What ever happened to the French investigation into the bribery allegations?
The evidence at the time seemed compelling, but appears he has slipped the noose.
LDP/Japan Inc is corrupted beyond imagination.

The Olympics, The Soccer World Cup, The Indian Cricket League.
These three lead the Corruption Games.
