This guy is just an idiot (I know you read this site Karpeles). Your sloppy programming and total lack of understanding how to run a business lost the coins. You essentially didn't give a hoot and spent company money as if it were your own.

It’s not obvious to me. What makes it obvious to you?

Whatever the truth here, seems to me that sooo many of these bitcoin "experts" or "entrepreneurs" are either clueless, sloppy or downright weird.

@expat: Jake Adelstein is a sensationalist and has a very warped view of Japan. Read his first book and you'll understand for as long as he lived here how wrong he gets it. Now I read he is writing a new book about bitcoin... already can read he has his facts all messed up to suit himself.

I hate this man. I had about 700 pounds worth of bitcoin that I was trading daily on mtgox and slowly increasing the value. Then I lost everything. I tried following the compensation route. Lots of letters from Japan. I gave them all the information they asked for, in time, and still got nothing. That was the end of my trust in cryptocurrency.

No, I don’t think anyone has shown that’s what happened. It could have been hackers or he just lost some USB keys.

Bitcoin is old news now. A year ago the bubble burst, as I recall. I bought a nominal amount of the stuff for a lark but now it’s even more nominal in value :)

This all happened in 2014 when bitcoin was worth around $1000. Imagine it had happened about a year ago when it was $20,000.

The loss would have been 17,000,000,000$.

Yeah, the price has definitely started to stabilize it looks like. It took a few years, but the actual value is starting to be realized, rather than the bubble that we saw last year.
