Suspended sentence for the Japanese person, what a shocker! Will we even be told the sentence for the non-Japanese?

Dollars to donuts the non-Jaoanese doesn't get a suspended sentence because he didn't show enough remorse (bow not quite low enough) and he corrupted a Japanese person.

Suspended sentence for the Japanese person, what a shocker!

First time drug offenders almost always get suspended sentences as the default, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Were there some extenuating circumstances in this case?

People have made this claim lots on the site, but I've never seen anyone support it.

The only case I know - the guy got a suspended sentence. Others have indicated the same with anecdotes. I've never seen actual numbers specific to foreigners.

ChipARoo: I can tell you with certainty, 1st Timers get off...but nobody said anything about Deportation .

@Chipstar: I've heard of many foreigners getting suspended sentences too for first offences of this nature, the racism card isn't valid here.

The dude Yates most likely will too, along with his residency cancelled and kicked out of the country.

Kabashima was arrested ... over possession of about 1 gram of cocaine while in a taxi

If the police stops you while you're carrying drugs in a taxi, just dump it on the floor. They can't prove it was yours, especially if it doesn't have your finger prints... (it could have been left there by a previous customer)

That’s not going to work very well when the drugs are in your wallet, you forget it in the taxi and the driver turns it in to the police. Which is what happened in this case...

If I get caught with Coke, I would go to prison for a very long time. After I get out of Prison I would be deported. What is different between him and I? 1. I don't play Rugby. 2. I don't do coke. 3. I am not Japanese. With that being said, my sentence would be more harsh. What if I got fired from my Job because if it? Is that enough punishment for a foreigner. Quite sure the mods will delete this, again.

Drako, why is that? Are you already on a long suspended sentence?

If it was your first offense for possessing a small amount, I would imagine you would also get a suspended sentence.

nah...not with gaijin, they are not wasting time with prison, goig straight to deportation, so I have been told

Your not getting no suspended sentence for cocaine as a gaijin.....lol.

Probably not. Suspended sentences are the standard here for first time offenses, unless there is a compelling reason that a suspended sentence should not be given.

After I get out of Prison I would be deported.

Not necessarily. On this one, I'm only going off the single anecdote I have, but the one guy I know who got arrested for drugs got a suspended sentence, and was not deported as a foreigner.

The one person I know that got arrested for drugs didn't even get indicted. No deportation either. That said, he was never in possession because they were intercepted in the mail.

The dude I know is also non-Japanese.
