Father arrested for abusing 2-month-old son of common-law wife

Police in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested an unemployed 32-year-old man on suspicion of abusing the 2-month-old son of his common-law wife.

According to police, Makoto Morita picked up the boy by the legs and shook him violently at their apartment between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday, Fuji TV reported. He also covered the child's nose and mouth with his hand.

The child lost consciousness and his mother called 119 and reported that he wasn't breathing. The boy was taken to hospital where doctors notified police of a possible case of child abuse. Police said doctors also found the child had suffered broken bones. He remained in a coma on Tuesday.

Police said Morita has admitted to the charge but said he had no intent to kill the child. Police are also questioning the child's 29-year-old mother who was at home when the abuse occurred. She was quoted by police as saying she was too afraid of Morita to stop him.

He was abusing your child! You do whatever you can to defend it. A fry pan is a great weapon!

Interesting scenario. The baby is two months old, but not his? How long have they been married?

Let's see how Japan's Justice system treats this violent moron want to bet he gets a light sentence compared to the crime

@ Did - they're not married. JT likes to use the term common law wife instead of saying the lady he was shacking up with. It sounds nicer.

This is a normal behaviour for females in Japanese society to not only endure the domestic violence, but also let the child suffer from it. in 2/3 cases they either participate, or abstain in fear of also being a means of steam venting or insane enjoyment. Only those 1/3 would defend their children from a degenerate male, but then we do not read about it because women that would defend their child do not let things escalate far enough to actually have to defend the child. IN THEORY.

There is the key word! "unemployed"

So she marries a jobless loser and watches him beat her child.

Sounds like the two deserve each other

the title of the article calls him "father" so assumed they were married. Hey better yet, she shacks up with a jobless loser (probably supporting him with money too) as he is the big man beating a small child.

With the justice system here he won't even see jail time. shame

Not everyone is trying to secure their life with their "significant other" being a cash machine. There are also dignity and true love at play, if you have heard of them. Not claiming whichever is responsible in this case...

And as always people are criticizing the mother for not stopping her husband. Guess nobody here has ever been scared in their life !

One of the particularity of violent abusive relationships is that the victim is too scared to resist or run away.

Because you know the normality of Japanese society from reading a few news articles.

Another one! The stupid mother is equally to blame and her stupid excuse for not stopping him is pathetic and cowardly. I would jump into a cage with a gorilla to save my own child. I hope they find a good loving home for this child not make the same mistake of returning him to these two animals!

Amazing how people have a preconceived idea of what an unemployed person is. How about being more open to the serious hardship it is for them living in Japan. Benifets only last 3 months, then after you have to find a nice park to sleep in.

Thanks for gratuitously sympathizing for the perpetrator and not the victim. Being unemployed IS NOT and excuse for child abuse!
