Father arrested for leaving 4-year-old daughter in car parking lot to discipline her

I can’t imagine the abject fear that child experienced being dropped off and left behind at night.

A parent is the world to a child, instilling this kind of fear is cruelty, not “discipline”.

This person has no empathy, compassion or common sense, and any family member who goes along with this is just as bad.

I hope there is a relative outside of this immediate household, who can care for her.

This parent is unfit.

My wife's parents disciplined her by making her get out of the house at night. I thought that was bad until I read that a father actually drove his daughter to a parking lot to discipline her.

Isn't it time to mandate a parenting license in order to procreate?

and where was his wife in all of this I think my wife would notice if our 4 year old was missing from the house for many hours.

This is so sad.

Imagine how scared this little girl would have been. I just can't imagine and it's just something I'd never contemplate doing.

There are some absolutely awful people in the world. This dad is one of them.

Scares me to think that a 4-year-old was walking along a street by herself. Thank god she was rescued by a kind passersby! This could have turned out much differently.

Tateno, by leaving his 4 year toddler daughter alone at a parking lot at night exposed her to many dangers. She could have lost herself in the dark night, attacked by animals, kidnaped, wandered into th path of a speeding car and killed or gravely injured, fallen into a river and drowned, etc.etc.etc. He has no human right to be a father.

He might as well have sentenced her to death. Cruel and unusual punishment in the extreme. Thank God she survived.

I'm glad a passerby notified police and that the girl was safe.

Unfortunately, knowing the Japanese system, nothing will be done against the father and this girl will be taken back home.

When I first read the headline I thought, maybe she was throwing a fuss in the car. He put her out and pretended to drive away. Still not a good thing to do, but a little more understandable. But to drive her there and order her out then leave and no return is incomprehensible. They should check the wife and see if she has been abused as well.

You should have to pass a test and get a licence to be a parent. Some people should never have kids.

Sad news and bad father. 27 year old man in Japan are mostly immature so it would make sense. A responsible adult would not do such horror to a 4 year old your cute little daughter. Child birth rate is low in japan and lots of being murdered by there own parents and I fear what it would be like in Japan in the next 200 years from now with the grey population. Jgovt need to take some serious action.

The sad part is the father doesn't think he did anything bad which means he really is in need of counselling.

Father, mother and all the other family members should be investigated. Nobody was missing this 4-year old child? What kind of irresponsible people are they?

Discipline takes on some weird forms in Japan. It’s always the kids that cop the abuse from idiot parents who can not discipline themselves.

I'm glad we're reading about his arrest now and not after finding a corpse. I just pray that social services keep the poor girl and perhaps even give her to a family that would love her and not beat her. And where is mom in all this? She allows the man to do that? Lock her up, too, unless it can be proven she is also a victim of abuse. And if that's the case, get them all away from this man right away, because I guarantee that while we didn't have to read about a corpse to see the man arrested, we WILL read about at least one if he's let go with just a slap on the wrist.

I am so glad the guy is arrested. I hope one day there will be a law that a parent loses custody of a child if they abused the kid even once. They don't deserve to have a child.

A parenting licence sounds good until you imagine what kind of bureaucratic hoops and twisted exhortations would be expected in order to receive that in Japan. There would even be a power struggle over which ministry would administer it. And since the education ministry has no concept of or empathy with a child it would be hard to imagine, say, the health ministry having a notion of what good parenting consists of. Ultimate, such a licence would be purely for bureaucratic convenience.

Tells you all you need to know about this arrogant, spoilt, over privileged man child. Not fit to be a father, and deserves a prison sentence for neglect and child cruelty. As well as a huge fine.

Plus, it is almost winter. What a cruel person.

A 4 year old can be a Mental Psychopath, reaching for Kitchen knives and throwing them around...

The real problem here, is proper help / counselling for Families in need here in Japan. It is not covered by

the National Media insurance, and is pretty much considered as a "quack" area of Health.

So, before being judgmental upon the Parents, take a step back, and get the facts - which are not here in this article. The only thing we can agree upon, is that this, is a very, sorry, situation to have arisen, and be reported here.

When I was 3 (we moved every few years and I remember the specific house), I walked home from a big store about 1-2kms after I thought I'd been left behind by Mom and my siblings. The store was on the edge of residential areas and I didn't even have to cross a street. It wasn't dangerous at all.

I knew how to follow instructions and would actually do what I was told, even if I didn't like it. We were trained about sitting quietly weekly - in Catholic masses. Fortunately, I never was sent to a Catholic school to be whacked by nuns.

The father made a mistake, though a child with bruising needs to be investigated.

Parents would often leave kids sitting in a car as they ran inside a store "quick". I don't think a 4 yr old is quite old enough to be left alone, but around 5-7 yr olds should be able to sit in a seat for 10 minutes. Just crack the window and leave the dog to watch them.

I was babysitting at age 10 for parents who would be out for 6 hours in the evening. That was common at the time.

In parts of Europe, 5-6 yr old kids take public transit to school on their own. 4 isn't THAT much younger to be expected to sit and wait.
