A woman in her 50s who was confined in a single cell at Yamaguchi Prison in Yamaguchi City was found hanged inside a toilet stall last week, officials said.
According to prison officials, a guard found the woman hanging by her neck after she tied the ends of her pants into a loop and hung it on a fastener in the toilet stall at around 7:25 p.m. on Feb 18, Kyodo News reported. She was taken to hospital but died on Saturday night.
While in custody, the woman had reportedly told prison officials that she wanted to die. Prison director Kazuo Ota said at a news conference: “It is truly regrettable that an inmate died. We will try to prevent a recurrence.”

People just keep die inside Japanese justice system, Wishma Sandamali wasn't the last one. It doesn't matter whether during police custody, immigration and prison.
Mr Kipling
She said she wanted to die and achieved her goal. Sad but the only person at "fault" was the prisoner.

Glad you're not a counselor. At least I really hope not!

Uh huh. Yeah sure
Hervé L'Eisa
It's unsurprising that prisoners/detainees in the Japanese "justice" system prefer death to continued imprisonment.

Prison authorities must take reasonable steps to prevent suicides in prison.
kurisupisu
People usually have a reason for suicide.
Was it the treatment in the gaol?
I’ve seen violent prison guards outside prison here.
Imagine how inmates are treated inside away from public view?
John
I don’t think it’s a suicide. someone can’t possibly suicide like that in a jail.

How do you know?

Nice try, but too late.

Humanity will never learn. Humans were not meant to be in cages.
Now this woman may not seem like she did the right thing, but she took control of her life. She robbed them of the joy of seeing a human in jail.
P.S: Interesting fact! I drove along Tokyo C2 near Adachi the other day. You can see the Detention Center from the highway and on your map. Have any of you noticed that it's shaped like an hourglass? TRUE STORY. Look at Google Maps. Quite a sadistic design if you ask me.
Fighto!
Ooh, here we go. An Epstein-style cOnSpIrAcY.
Please, tell us more... (this will be fun, folks)

The prison director isn't very sharp. There will be no recurrence, seeing as how she is dead.

Instead of being Proactive the Prison director has now decided on a reactive prevention program. While in prison the women reportedly told the prison officials she wanted to die. That statement from the prisoner to the officials should have put her on suicide watch around the clock supervision. I guess they didn't believe her

So the prison guards were aware of the fragile state of her mental health and she wasn't put on suicide watch because???
The number of detainees and prisoners that die in their cells in Japan is extremely concerning.
John
It’s not a suicide, why is everyone voting me negative. How i know it? Because it wouldn’t work if you try to do it by yourself. And also the same way of suicide news have been reported every so often. Even if you think one extremely skilled person has achieved suiciding like that, it’s not like everyone can do it whenever they want. It’s an extremely difficult way of suiciding.

Mission accomplished. If someone is determined enough, this is unavoidable.
