Police are looking for man who stabbed an 18-year-old woman on the street after asking for directions in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.

According to police, the man approached the woman, a first year vocational school student, at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, TBS reported. The woman was quoted by police as saying the man then stabbed her in the abdomen and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a 1-cm-deep puncture wound to her stomach. Doctors say her injuries are not life-threatening.

The assailant was described as 170 cms tall, wearing a black coat, jeans and a face mask.

I would never approach a man in black with a face mask, they fit the description of every crime. Hope this scumbag gets caught soon.

Ewan - he approached her and asked for directions, not the other way round.

Some of the Japanese news sites are reporting that the guy was "foreign looking" and that he spoke broken Japanese.

They always do... propaganda 101 by the right-wing authorities.

Ban face masks!

1cm cut? I am glad for her sake it wasn't any deeper.

maybe there will be not much more japanese hospitality from now unless the police will catch this psychopath as soon as possible!, otherwise all japanese will be weary of tourists who are really asking for directions!

Glad it wasn't that serious a physical injury, but no doubt it was a traumatizing event. How many random stabbings so far in April, btw?

what's up with all of the chickens who stab and run. Damn cowards!

Ok, personal feelings about safety issues aside here for this comment and while I am quite sure folks are going to be thumbing it down, (I really dont care about that, never had, and never will, this is MY "devils advocate" thought here) something smells fishy about this story that from just what is written here;

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a 1-cm-deep puncture wound to her stomach. Doctors say her injuries are not life-threatening.

One centimeter, think about that for a moment, the word centimeter is longer than the alleged "stab" wound.

(I measured it on my screen here and 1 centimeter is the distance between the "c" and first "e" in the word centimeter, put your thumb and forefinger together, it's basically the distance between the fingernails)

Consider clothing, a jacket or coat maybe? Were her clothes torn or punctured? Is there more to this story than being reported?

Ok, SOMETHING happened, and I hope that if this alleged attacker did this, I hope that the JP's catch him and toss him in jail.

But on the surface alone here something doesnt quite add up. Did she know the guy? Is it self-inflicted and she got scared? Kind of a convenient explanation that the guy was wearing a "face mask".

Oh and I for one would not be going to the hospital for a 1 cm deep cut or puncture wound to my stomach.

Weirdo.

Sorry, must remember to put my reading eyes in first thing in the morning.

@ yuburu even a paper cut bleeds a lot. and since the weather is warming up people aren't wearing big heavy coats. and the hospital visit was probably more for shock. besides even if was no bigger than 1 cm, she still needed to be treated. what if the weapon was dirty, rusty or had poison on it.? a tetnus shot and proper dissenfection is needed.

I come from L.A. where I often head drive-by shootings. Now I have to constantly deal with walk-by stabbings?

Yubaru: Sorry, I gave you the 'thumbs down' due to the lengthy explanation of a centimeter.

Other than that, I can appreciate your 'Devil's advocate' point of view, but like you said, it's possible she was wearing some heavy clothing, or possibly she had the opportunity to partially dodge the knife; especially if the guy was wearing a mask and asking her for directions, maybe she had some time to be suspicious and prepare herself a little bit in case the guy tried something (which he did).

Also, the article says she was "taken" to the hospital which makes me think that the hospital was not the first place she went to. Perhaps the police called her an ambulace and told her to go 'get it checked out'?

Yubaru 1 cm is a bit longer than that. Now the distance between the c and the second e in centimeter I'll buy.

Hey It is almost exactly 1 cm for my finger and thumb, hence the reason I wrote it. lol!

um just a thought. in other articles they often said boy, and it sometimes refereed to a 19 year old man. So why is a 18 year old female a woman not a girl when other males are counted as boys?

I am sure the wound of the victim's heart is much longer than 1 cm.
