A fetus was found in a garbage truck in Oshu, Iwate Prefecture, on Friday, police said Saturday.

According to police, the fetus was found at around 9 a.m. when an employee at the garbage disposal area opened the truck, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the gender of the 15-cm-long fetus could not be determined. It weighed about 60 grams.

Police said the driver told them he started work at around 8:30 a.m. and made pick-ups at about 10 locations.

So sad. But 60g? Sounds like a miscarriage, I have never heard of a baby that small.

WOW! And what about the placenta? She is in trouble if that did not come out!!!

If it was fifteen centimetres long, then it most certainly weighed more than sixty grams; most likely an arithmetical error or translational error...

umbilical cord was still attached and the original report said 15cm and 60 grams. Sounds like a miscarriage. Not a viable life at that size. Hope the mum is okay.

A knowledgeable and compassionate response to a dark and most often hidden trauma, Lisa. In such cases some people opt to bury the remains in their yard and perhaps place a commemorative plant, stone or garden sculpture over it. However, someone living in an apartment complex will not have that option. A slightly darker observation: The municipal manual does not offer suggestions for disposal of this kind. Hospitals and clinics don't offer a service for this unfortunate circumstance either. Cremation is an option; however, it's expensive. I know a couple who kept the remains of a much wanted pregnancy in their freezer for many years as they had no way to deal with the physical aspect of their loss. Compassion and blessings to the parents and the unborn child.

Regardless of size or weight, it's a human life.

Not if dead on arrival.

Gotta love the people who criticize abortion, and also criticize any social safety nets that would help unwanted babies through life. Real contributing members of society those ones.

Rare that I agree with you, Sir, but here you speak wisdom. One item left out, though, is that the most rabidly anti-birth control proponents ('proLife!') seem to be the most rabidly proWar (proDeath!) folks also. I guess while it's not okay to stop a pregnancy, it's okay to mass murder the result of that pregnancy when it reaches 18 years old (17 with parental permission). Do 'unwanted' babies make better soldiers? Perhaps they do...

Regardless of size or weight, it's a human life.

Sadly the baby is only considered a human being based on the emotionally charged determination of a desperate mother. If they deem it so the child’s life is less important than that of an animal. The biological facts, empathy and humanity are not part of the equation.
