Fire department employee arrested for indecent behavior with minor

Police in Oshamambe, Hokkaido, have arrested a 52-year-old fire department employee on suspicion of committing an indecent act with a 13-year-old girl he met on a social networking site.

According to police, Kunio Aoyagi, who was arrested on Tuesday, has been arrested for allegedly violating Hokkaido Prefecture’s Juvenile Protection law, Sankei Shimbun reported. The incident occurred on June 8 when Aoyagi met with the junior high school student and took her to a hotel in Hokkaido’s Ishikari region.

Despite knowing she was a minor, Aoyagi used a members-only social networking site to become an online acquaintance and corresponded with the girl.

The crime came to light after Hokkaido Prefectural Police’s cyber patrol unit discovered messages between the two.

Police said Aoyagi has admitted to the charge.

“Minor”? Why not use the word child, because that’s what she is. Another paedophile. Japan desperately needs a sex offenders register.

If that 'hotel' had a staffed reception desk there's something extra wrong with this situation.

Many are not staffed at the front desk. But even for those that are, they don't question things like that because part of being able to stay in that type of hotel industry is being able to maintain your secrecy and privacy.

Just as an aside, what is this unit?

PS Whatever it is, it worked in this instance. But I wonder what else they use it for....

For once, good job police.

Some of the stories about firemen have been funny, but this one is not. Good work by the police.

Firemen seem to be in the news a lot recently...?

There was a significant gap in time between the June offense and the October apprehension. I can only hope he didn't do this repeatedly to her.

There must be a no tolerance for sex offences against minors/children and the hotel industry must adhere to this as will. Renting a hotel room for a few hours and entering with a child should be a red flag for the hotel staff/security.

A national sex offender registry is needed. Again...NO TOLERANCE.
