Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old firefighter for the Tokyo Fire Department on suspicion of inflicting bodily injury on a man in Onjuku, Chiba Prefecture.

According to police, Shogo Yoshida, a resident of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, head-butted a 31-year-old man on a beach at around 4:50 p.m. on Monday, Sankei Shimbun reported. The victim, who lives in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward, sustained a head injury.

Following his arrest, Yoshida admitted to injuring the man, but denied assaulting him. He was quoted as saying his arm accidentally hit him.

Police said Yoshida and the man were not acquainted and appeared to have gotten into an argument.

Would've been funnier if he'd said "His face accidentally hit my fist"

His face was like a projectile, flying thru the air nonstop, while my fist was just sitting there, doing nothing, minding its own business

I live right by Onjuku beach, but missed this..... LOL

headbutt.....? arm.....? something here doesn't compute..... LOL again

is the fact that he's a firefighter in any way relevant?

@Mike H: there's bags of room on Onjuku beach, and 90% of people crowd into a small area where there would be umi-no-ie and lifesavers if there were any this year.

Here's another question, given how vast a beach is, how could two people possibly come into close contact? I would understand if they were inside a train station or at a bust crosswalk but not at a beach.

The beach area in Chiba isn’t a full stretch wide area and people crowd up the beaches making it practically impossible to walk freely. Haven’t you been to a beach around Chiba or Kanagawa during summer? So many people on all spots that it becomes more stressful than relaxing ( as a foreigner but Japanese are okay with it )!

As someone who has a friend with a bad case of anger issues, there are people out there who have the temperament of rabid animals and will lash out at you with full force even if you look at them wrong. From my experience, an accidental headbutt is enough to finish something. But punching people in the face leads to serious prolonged assault by both parties.

why is this even news?
