Fireman arrested for assaulting man in wheelchair at train station toilet in Tokyo

Police in Tokyo have arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a man in a wheelchair in a multipurpose toilet at Tokyo’s Akihabara Station.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on Dec 8. Kyodo News reported that the man in the wheelchair, who is in his 20s, tried to open the door to the toilet but couldn’t because the suspect, who is a fire department chief from Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, was asleep on the floor inside the toilet, blocking the door.

The man sought help from a station official. When he opened the door, the suspect got up and started punching and slapping the wheelchair-bound man in the face before he was subdued by commuters, while the station employee called 110.

Police said the suspect was drunk when they arrived at the scene. He told police he couldn’t remember the incident.

The Chiba Fire department said the suspect was off duty that day.

He was drunk and doesn’t remember? What a big surprise that is, not! What sort of pathetic thug beats on someone in a wheelchair? Lock this drunken lunatic up for a long time.

Sleeping on a lavatory floor meant for disabled people?

Assaulting a disabled person?

Drunk and disorderly?

Early retirement is in order

Actually handicapped toilets are very clean and spacious, warm, have an en suite, basin for shaving and brushing your teeth, and the baby changing table is very comfortable. Better than staying in a tiny capsule hotel.

I trust and hope this individual is being named and shamed in the Japanese media.

Beating up someone in a wheelchair, it doesn’t get much lower than that.

Hopefully there's a special place in hell for scum like that.

I am a disabled toilet user. This was not good but nothing criminal happened.

A fire department chief from Funabashi assaulted a man in a wheelchair, you cannot get much lower than this. The very fact he is a chief of a fire dept and very drunk in public and becomes a brutal thug, says not much for his overall character. I wonder if he has a hidden record of this type of behaviour?

Why can’t people control themselves and drink in moderation? That silly man did a terrible thing to the wheelchair man and now he must pay the price and probably lose his job too.

Perhaps the punching and slapping part?

These drunken fools in Japan seem to think that the beers are made with the waters from Lethe with how many times they use the excuse of "not remembering". Fire this lowlife and toss him in jail posthaste. He's a disgrace to his profession.

What a lowlife.

Disgrace to that fine profession.

Every profession that's meant to be beneficial and protect the public, to serve others has its rotten apples that give them all a bad image. Spoils everything.
