Toyama, a former member of the lower house, and Shibuya, 61, admitted to the charges and apologized.

Keiichi Ishii, secretary general of Komeito, said in a statement, "It is truly regrettable and (their conduct is) absolutely unforgivable."

Accountability is limited to this when you are member of the oligopoly.

If you are outside, you must be punished with the utmost severity so that we can ensure "respect for the rule of law".

Did he resign from Sokka Gakai as well?

unlikely to run or hide evidence, the prosecutors decided to indict them without arrest.

‘That’s so cute, unlikely? And if they do? Prosecution fails? Seems like a free pass.

GREED is bad.

"Did he resign from Sokka Gakai as well?"

It's Soka Gakkai.

No one resigns from Soka Gakkai. Either they leave on their own or they are stripped of leadership positions but continue to be members of the organization. Membership of the organization is voluntary, it is not an official or formal membership (as in there are no financial obligations or other obligations if one becomes a member).

It's not illegal. In Japan, anything illegal is legal to the politicians.

"Kiyohiko Toyama, who stepped down as a Komeito lawmaker in February"

Is this the same guy who visited nightclubs in Ginza while COVID restrictions were in place? A graduate of Soka University and a Komeito lawmaker, I wonder how the Soka Gakkai will explain this to their members.

Will they brush this under the carpet like they do so well in my country when caught hobnobbing with tainted politicians or will they come clean and own up to the mess?

Not the first time one of their own has let the (many) other genuine members down. The antics of Masatomo Yamazaki are well known in the Soka organizations around the world.

despite government calls to avoid unnecessary outings

Sounds like he got more of an outing (albeit harmless to him in the long run) than he reckoned on.

For a junior partner, they’re extremely adept at tail wag the dog usurpation of the LDP’s public money divvying responsibility. Not having any mandate to do so, was no impediment to them offering the 10万円 pre-election bribe. Nor did not having the required license impede their ability to direct 198 loans of public money to favored recipients; efforts for which they were handsomely compensated to the tune of 10 million yen. Presumably, Toyama’s hostess bar wining and dining was more payola for services rendered.
