Police in Tokyo have arrested a former judo champion on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend.

Jobu Ebata, a winner of the men’s 90kg at the East Asian Judo Championships in 2016, was arrested on Dec 24, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said he has partially denied the allegation.

According to the arrest warrant, the assault occurred in mid-December at a hotel in Tokyo. The victim, in her 30s, suffered injuries after Ebata kicked her in the arms and legs, police allege.

Ebata is married and has a daughter.

So many things wrong here.

A 90+kg judo champion beating up a woman

It was Christmas Eve, & the woman was his girlfriend

His wife was at home with his daughter

Some hero he turned out to be! 'Champ'? More like chump.

Hopefully, the prefix "former" will also be appended to his wife and girlfriend.

Simian Lane

Judo is the mildest of the martial arts, so we can only hope.

Try to tangle with a 90 kilo Judo champion and say that again.

He is married and has a girlfriend.

Wouldn’t be mistress the correct word

Man who gets paid to fight assaults someone. Not exactly unexpected, is it?

Even men can't handle a a judo wrestler kick, so I can imagine the pain she must have suffered assuming her claim is true!!!?

Sounds like a real winner.

Get rid of that clown.

No one will miss him.

Police said he has partially denied the allegation.

What does this even mean?!! How can you "partially" deny assaulting someone?

Also, what a cheating scumbag. There are countries where adultery is a punishable offense.

I hope he at least gets jail time for the assault he "partially" denied.

Surely Aikido is milder? or just useless?

as a former Aikido guy, yeah it's useless but it was fun nonetheless.

Back on topic please.

@tooheysnew, the attack didn't occur on Christmas Eve - it occurred in mid-December, and they just brought him in on Friday in order to time the case (bring him before the magistrate today, then hold him over for 10 days from today, which will expire right after the Japanese Police stretch of vacation days will end on the 4th or 5th.)

This guy is a loser. Beating up and kicking a woman, what a coward.

Real men dont hit women. I hope he loses everything - including any future access to his daughter.

Another person with anger management issues.
