Former part-time teacher arrested for paying high school girl for sex

Police in Tokyo said Tuesday they have arrested a former part-time teacher at a girls’ high school in Tachikawa for committing an indecent act after he allegedly paid a 16-year-old girl to have sex with him at a hotel in 2017.

According to police, the suspect, Yutaro Matsuzaki, 26, paid the girl 30,000 yen to engage in lewd acts with him at a hotel in the Kabukicho red-light district of Shinjuku in November 2017, Fuji TV reported.

Police said Matsuzaki, who met the girl online, told them he did not know the girl was a minor and believed she was in her 20s.

Matsuzaki quit his job in January, telling the school it was for family reasons.

Article almost makes it seem like the girl was from the HS he taught at.

He will be out in no time.

Lifetime ban from teaching, name in nationwide sex offenders' register, banned from changing his name.

That's what should happen.

This excuse is quite plausible. There seems to be a lot of young girls offering their honor for cash.

How did he get caught?

When you understand the culture, its obvious that this guy booked a girl online who was working in the red light district and she lied about her age, so who is wrong here?

In no way am I condoning having sex with minors but...

... it's hard to say who the victim is here.  A 16-year-old whether male or female can easily pass for a low 20 something.  If he truly believed her when she presented herself as an adult then who is at fault?  I guess nothing short of asking for proof of age would be needed in this situation.

No one here is surprised at the fact that a teacher, who is most probably married, is soliciting young girls online. Nothing to see here!

This man shouldn't be teaching kids, he clearly lacks the moral fiber (if that is worth anything anymore).

That's one reason why it's truly best to wait till marriage before having sex. It is a guaranteed way to avoid such messy situations.

TEACHER LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE. This Moron should have listened to Pink Floyd. Now he got caught with his hand in the COOKIE JAR and now he has to pay societies price for doing what he should not have done. Another One Bites The Dust. Dumb Dude.

There was a JHS teacher in my area of Japan who was arrested for such a thing. A girl who had run away from home was found by police. She'd been living on her own for a few weeks. When the police questioned her about what she did for money, she told them that she was prostituting. The police then searched her things and found a phone number with no name attached. When asked about it, the girl said that it was one of her customers but she didn't know his name. The police traced the number and found the JHS teacher. Needless to say, it was quite a surprise and worry for all of the parents whose children this teacher had been in contact with.

If this girl represented herself as not being a minor, then I wouldn't be able to find fault with this teacher.

If the girl didn't represent herself in any way (minor or not), and the teacher didn't confirm, I feel he would probably morally bear some burden for this (should have clarified), but I'm not sure that legal responsibility would follow. I guess it would depend on whether he had a reasonable expectation to think she was an adult or not.

If the girl represented herself as being a minor, and he still went with it, or if she was clearly a minor, and he didn't bother to confirm, then I think he would bear fault.

She is a minor prostituting herself through the Internet. Why has she not been arrested too? Or, is that acceptable behavior under Japanese law?

So which act was considered indecent, the payment itself or the "lewd acts"? If no money had changed hands, would he have been charged?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Doesn’t mention his age, but if your thing is school girls, you have to ask for ID. Under 18 = jail.

So the girl took the money, had sex, then turned the guy in? Sounds like she's a shrewd operator.

Yeah, nah.

I guess nothing short of asking for proof of age would be needed in this situation.

Exactly so why didn't he do it then? I mean you're just about to have sex with a young-looking prossie I.e there's nothing romantic here, then why not ask to see her Id?

In no way am I condoning sex with minors, but I'm confused here...if she did in fact misrepresent her age, how was the man supposed to know? He didn't solicit her in front of a high school, but online.

Unless information is being withheld, we can't really determine who is truly at fault.

Often these events are triggered off by the guy NOT paying. At least he paid!

Questions I have are:

Is it not correct that the age of majority in Tokyo is 16, so if you are 16 or over then you are legal age of consent to engage in sex?

If yes, then is it the money paid for their encounter that makes this a crime?

No, that's not correct. It's 18.

so if you are 16 or over then you are legal age of consent to engage in sex?

See above.

I would not assume this girl is a hooker. If she was, no one would find out. Protecting young women from their own poor judgment is why statutory rape laws exist.

How old is this guy then?

Who would downvote this? Teenagers escaping unstable situations at home, unempowered, and preyed upon by men who should know better--this is the universal overwhelming explanation about why such things happen. How many well-adjusted teens from happy, middle-class families, without mental health problems and no record of abuse are prostituting themselves? But I suppose some have a strangely vested interest in believing myths, that some greedy immoral teens are only out for some name-brand goods or that minors are as guilty as men 2, 3, hell, 4 times their age.

There is no nationwide sex offender registry. Japan lagging behind in yet another area.

Reckless - I would not assume this girl is a hooker. If she was, no one would find out.

Why not? This guy was searching the internet for more than companionship. She made herself available to meet his needs, via the internet. Money exchanged hands.
