Daisuke Oku, a former soccer player who represented Japan, has been arrested for threatening to kill his wife, actress Hinako Saeki, Kanagawa police said Friday.
Police said that Oku, who was capped 26 times and scored two goals for the Japanese national team, is accused of calling Saeki by phone and making several threats on her life, allegedly saying, "I'm coming to kill you now."
TBS reported Friday that Saeki consulted police. Oku was arrested in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, on Thursday afternoon and transferred to a police station in Kanagawa.
According to police, Oku has so far denied the charges.

Couldn't agree more and also a very strong whiff of racism.

@kimuzukashiiiii, you took the words right out of my mouth!
There are so many of these but never reported, finally it's all out in the open and a lesson to men who mistreats their woman like trash.

Primo, you're wrong. They can. Technology has evolved. But the police doesn't have access to the calls just like that when you pass at the koban. It's later judges that allow them to check. I don't think that's necessary.
I bet she did. Now, it's easy to do and I know many women in a uwaki or divorce case do that.

The misogyny is strong with so many here. Along with that old chestnut of blaming the victim.

Im blown away that so many people are automatically assuming the wife is making it up. She may be. But what if she isnt?
Because this is Japan and this is what they do. But imagine the headlines, and the comments, if she had reported this to the police, they had done nothing, and he HAD killed her. The police cant win either way on this one.

i call shenanigans

"Obviously the contents of the phone call, if not recorded by wife, can at least be proven to have occurred when police check the phone records. It would still be hearsay, but if there are enough of said calls it might indicate what she says is true."
While I can wholly agree that phone calls can be proven to have occurred. I have reasonably strong doubts that the content of said calls can be verified, if they were not recorded. Therefore, short of an actual recording of the calls, the contents CANNOT be proven to have occurred. He plays soccer out of town, the calls could have been," I miss you, I love you, hope to see you soon", and have been spun by the wife for whatever purposes. I'll withhold an opinion on this guy until more details emerge.

Wow, so no innocent until proven guilty? Are there kids involved? Perhaps she wants custody? Perhaps not. Perhaps he did threaten her but why not wait and see what happend to this case before judging his guilt?

I guess this story is sad.
Maria
@kimuzukashiiii - I agree. I imagine she recorded the conversations.
JA_Cruise
however the whole story behind this is not there, why would he threaten her?
Michael Net Work
May I venture to say that maybe he did not actually threaten her? Maybe she made it up? I have heard that happens a lot here in Japan and other countries as well. Food for thought?

I hope this idiot fool Daisuke gets a new nick name, Dai Baka!!!

japanese woman will use many tricks to gain the upper hand self harm is another, then call the cops saying the boyfriend or husband did it.

Spike, those phone calls can be tracked down. If he denies it, he must be allowed the right of doubt. And the media will get crazy over this, because obviously there were deep problems in that family, which they can barely wait to uncover, the stinkier it gets, the better it sells.
kimuzukashiiiii
Im very surprised the cops actually did anything about it though, Maria.
Usually they don't want to get involved because its a "family matter" and they only will help after someone has actually tried to kill them. Threats alone are usually useless.
I hope this families celebrity status is not the only reason for police intervention...

Unfortunately it's a he said / she said situtation. But so often I have heard that Japanese women use this kind of tactic to force more out of a divorce settlement. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but unfortunately there appears to be no evidence and so I ask why should he be arrested without evidence???
Maria
Well done her, for calling the cops. Vicious people like him reply on fear to keep their victims tied to them, and she has refused to be cowed.
