Yes yes yes, hes a very bad man and hopefully will be justly punished for his actions.
But right now I'd like to talk about this -
Wouldn't his 33rd title in January be the point of surpassing?

Kazuyuki Yamamura sounds like a truly sadistic s.o.b.

Psychopath, of the old school. The ugly side of the Tate shakai Are these blokes born without the empathy gene or what?

It will be interesting if this morbidly obese man ends up in the clink: where will he possibly be able to get all those cream donuts he quite obviously lives on?!

He must have had a bad childhood.
Why would someone continue to work for someone that does harm to them?

This is likely just the tip of the iceberg.

Because you don't know the better alternatives, or else there are no better alternatives, or else you don't get to work at all otherwise.

It'll be interesting to see what sentence this big fat bully gets. Anything less than about 8 years would be extremely lenient.

smithinjapan: Judging by the photo, this is actually the iceberg.

What a piece of crap.

Wow. No wonder sumo is the Japanese "national sport". It embodies one of the country's great traditions -- bullying.

He did way more damage to that poor guy than was announced in this article. I saw those horrific photos on the news last night.

Any one of the things that this jerk did to his assistant is worthy of going to the police. Heck, even go to Hakuho and tell him about it and maybe Hakuho can rid of this guy or change stables. Last thing you want is bad press.

Well done to the victim for reporting it, and I hope the perpetrator is sufficiently punished.
Some sports coaches in Japan strike me as outright bullies. They get away with abuse because many people won't go against sensei.

This had been proven statistically years before and mentioned in a book called Freakonomics. Are bout data open and downloadable? It should be easy enough to put into OpenRefine and see for ourselves.

The senpai-kohai system is one of the root cause of evil here. Another is the brainwashing that's going on from early age when they drill it into kids heads that they should never challenge authority and always follow orders without question.
A lot of school coaches, especially baseball and judo coaches are sadistic samurai-wannabe psychopaths, control freaks, who abuse kids for the sake of it. Parents are also responsible for not standing up to bad teachers.Bullying is endemic in Japan and until people start standing up for themselves nothing will change.

Is he possibly yakuza? Do yakuza exert any influence (or flatulence) on sumo these days? Sumo do, sumo don't.
