His lawyers argued that the money Takahashi received was not bribes but legitimate consulting income as a sports marketing expert.

He seems to have miraculously healed; when he was entering court he was in a wheel chair.

Though the Olympics are funded partly by private money, they also rely heavily on taxpayer funding. In the case of Tokyo, at least 50% was public money.

Just to state what will be obvious to some, this means that costs were socialised so that profits could be made by corporations. This is the face of modern capitalism now it has thoroughly infiltrated everything.

SURE! Then what did he take? Service fees or "Arigatou" money?

Consultation fees, is the perfect sinonime for "bribery".

It's used by all crooked Politicians all over the world, including Japan.

Not bribes but consulting fees upon which he paid taxes? Any evidence of that?

What does it matter. He's just gonna get a suspended sentence, anyway.

This is hilarious the logic is the same if the cop didn't see money exchange behind a prostitute and a john then it is not a crime his clever lawyers flip the script and argued that the money Takahashi received was not bribes but legitimate consulting income from his "EXPERT SERVICES as a sports marketing expert" leaving the impression he was paid for a service no one knows much about.

A former executive with the powerful Japanese advertising company Dentsu, Takahashi is charged with accepting around 198 million yen in exchange for awarding Olympic contracts for the Tokyo Games held in 2021. His lawyers argued that the money Takahashi received was not bribes but legitimate consulting income as a sports marketing expert.
