Four bikers dressed as Spider-Man arrested in Saga City

Although rarely the most pressing problem facing Japanese society, the issue of young Japanese men riding motorbikes wildly is a persistent one. Known as bosozoku, these often teenage riders enjoy stirring up trouble and noise on the roads of Japan late at night.

On September 27, four men aged 16 to 18 were arrested for just such behavior in the middle of the night before in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. However, unlike other bosozoku doing donuts in the middle of a busy intersection and setting off bottle rockets, these ones were dressed as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

It should come as no surprise to any fan of the superhero that Japanese bikers would want to dress up as him, given his origin and all. It probably goes without saying, since Spider-Man is the main character of countless successful media franchises and the highest-grossing movie of all time, but just in case anyone out there is still unfamiliar with Spidey’s background, let’s recap.

Spider-Man started off as super-cool professional motorcycle racer Takuya Yamashiro whose scientist father was murdered by the evil Professor Monster. Not one to take any crap, Yamashiro went right after Monster and along the way encountered an alien spider named Galia who bestowed upon him the super spider powers, land-and-air vehicle, and giant robot needed to exact his revenge as an emissary of Hell.

The four were said to have announced what they were going to do in advance over TikTok. But apparently the Spidey-senses of local police weren’t quite as sharp, because even having been tipped off, the bikers were able to revel for a good two hours after midnight and draw a crowd of some 500 people.

Netizens, however, were much quicker to pounce on these youngsters, and sentenced them to ridicule in the court of public opinion.

“What is the mental connection between wanting to ride a motorcycle and wanting to make an ass of yourself?”

“They sullied the good name of Spider-Man!”

“Arrest everyone who went to watch too.”

“Those are some cheap Don Quijote costumes.”

“Someone call Chibatman!”

“Halloween isn’t for another month, boys.”

“I guess they want to be heroes.”

“Welcome to 1978.”

“Where’s Leopardon?”

As for the real law, police are still investigating whether others were involved, but the penalties likely won’t be severe, especially for the minors who were there. Then again, maybe Sony and Marvel will go after them the same way Nintendo took out all the go-karters dressed as Mario.

They arrested them without mentioning why..

Helmet ok no good, but costume ???

It's not only about the helmet. There are other reasons too I guess - for example the video looks like if that motorcycle has no number plate. Who is the owner of this motorcycle?

Also various parts illegally changed, like muffler. It's also about speeding, disregarding red signals.

What about their driving license? Alcohol? Did they stop when police arrived or did they try to escape...

It takes a while to check it out, therefore arrested for a few days, why not?

I have no objection if police stops these irresponsible riders, who are annoying people during late night.

Saga, lol. The least known prefecture in Japan.

A couple of years ago while test driving a Ford Transit Connect my wife and I were considering buying we encountered on an LA freeway two men on a Ducati motorcycle wearing nothing but their helmets! And this was a frosty December day too. Brrrrrrr. Yes we too photos, lol. Goodness knows what possesses people to do what they do.

Times have changed quite a bit. We had to have returned home or at least leave any outside activities before 10 p.m. when at the age of 16 and really everyone latest before midnight , also at the age of 17/ below 18. Official adulthood was set to 18 so only the 18 years old bikers could ever have made it onto the streets after midnight.

They look like they're in their mid or late 20's. They're losers.

If they are losers, why do they have such hot girlfriends?

They should of choosed Mario.

The cops in my area don't do anything about bozo-zuku. It's like they're afraid of them. But if they wear cheap superhero costumes, the cops will arrest them! I think clown costumes are most appropriate.

The bozo-zuku I see are hardly kids. They look like they're in their mid or late 20's. They're losers.

Do they arrest cosplayers in the street ?

I know in Japan there is a law that says you are guilty just to watch, but that is not on them.

In addition to doing stupid things in the street, they had to choose a pathetic costume like one of the Marvel clowns..

Yes, but if they were dressed as a weird Japanese anime character, you'd be shouting praise from the rooftops, calling Japan the 'frikiest' country in the world, possibly followed by 'like it or not', and an 'LOL' :)

Let the kids play!

Umm… that is definitely not the Spider-Man origin story in the Marvel universe. Was he adopted by Japan in the 70s?

yeah kind of like Christ was. There are some who believe he came to japan, married, had a family, died, and was buried in Aomori somewhere.

So why not screw with Spidey's background?

WTF??????????

I didn't watch the video, but the still above makes it look as if they aren't wearing helmets. That would be at least one thing they could get them on.

Somebody needs to google "Japanese Spiderman".

Japan has such a plethora of activities on offer for young people to engage in that I am extremely surprised anybody would want to blow off steam by riding motorcycles dangerously.

Jyuku isnt to everyones taste

Lowest common denominator, most Japanese netizens. Quick to punch down , utter cowards to those in power.

The police should have much better things to do with investigating the corrupt political, relicious and business connections in Japanese society.

Thumbs up for Japanese Supaidaman.

Thumbs down for the feckless Japanese police.

In the clip, Spider-man (Takuya Yamashiro) has a very unorthodox running style, which probably let many villians escape.

You just can't run long distance like that.
