France has nooooo room to talk, lol.

France abolished death penalty in 1981...

France has urged Japan to restore a de facto moratorium on its use of the death penalty following the execution on Friday of two convicted murderers.

The French govt. is similar to cats- Unware of your existence, unless they want something...

Odd because their way of execution was pretty effective.

Yes, the guillotine WAS an effective method of execution and belongs in museums along with electric chairs, gallows and the like. We can put them next to Iron Maidens and racks.

Why does FRance have an opinion on these executions? These people were not French. They should spend more time fixing their crummy economy and less making this type of dumb statement.

I was thinking the same thing... Though the French have always been keen on avoiding history and criticizing everyone for everything they've done in the past and likely will again (like being anti-nuclear weapons after producing more fallout than Chernobyl and Fukushima combined, yet they keep a large stash themselves).

this condemnation is coming about a week too late. were the french too busy watching the olympics, or eating foie gras, to say this sooner?

As usual, Japan trails behind most of the civilized world.

Japan: No, France.

End of.

France is spending too much money on their lifers in prison. They need to start offing the murderers they have and shut up about any other country. I do like the country and most of the people in France, just the one guy who pushed me off the metro train as the door opened I think needs to sucks eggs. It was years ago but it still makes think WTF.

execution is what it is...someone who doesn't deserve to live in society...someone who takes another life away. If you do the crime you must pay...America should be swift in their efforts to execute prisoners for killing or raping... and Im talking mindless killing and doing harm to others on purpose...critics ACLU will argue ...but you tell most people I raped and killed your own daughter they would want me dead too... simple as that... France shouldn't talk because they got their own problems... you telling me its inhuman to execute... What about my daughter ...??!! what about her life... killers don't deserve to live French or not....

This country really needs reassess its continuing use of Uncle Sam as a measuring stick for sociopolitical progress.

Because the French have an opinion about everything.

Perhaps. But their toilets are much cleaner than most of the civilzed world.

Well, they will just have to get over it.

Only if you take JR toilets out of the equation. They're like a battlefield sometimes.

France should keep its nose out. I read the French newspapers almost every day and that country has LOADS of its own problems (economy, employment just to begin with) to go around sticking its nose elsewhere. France should learn from what Hank Williams once said, "Why don't you mind your own business? 'Cos if you mind your own business, you won't be minding mine".

On the actual ethics of capital punishment, well I agree with it basically but there has to be absolutely no doubt of someone's guilt and in this instance, I hope that is the case (even though I have not read more about this two criminals). However, if there is even a TINY bit of doubt about someone's innocence/guilt then no way. They should not go through with it. If an innocent person is executed by the state (like the last person who happened to be executed in Australia back in the 1970s), then the country itself becomes a murderer. In this case though, reading about this (I won't say animal because animals are much better than filth like this and in general better than humans altogether come to think of it) 'gutter trash' (there that'll do), I have no sympathy whatsoever.

Some states have it, others don't.

@pamelot. That comment is both harsh and simply not true. French just have very strong convictions and beliefs, especially when it comes to human rights which is a direct legacy of the French Revolution. Why do you think there are so many strikes and demonstrations over there all the time? Regarding capital punishment, probably the atrocities committed during 'Le Terreur' (the Reign of Terror) by Robespierre et co. made French people ultimately deplore the execution of human beings, which is fine but to go and tell another country how to act or how not to act is arrogant. It has nothing to do with wanting anything in return in this case.

Butt out, France. Let the Japanese decide the ultimate punishment for the worst type of criminals. Make no mistake: the great majority of Japanese people support execution.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I see a whole lot of reasons to restart death penalty in France. At least it would give a sense of terror that doesn't exist anymore.

Well first of all, lets not blame all of France for what the Foreign Minister said.

Second, everyone is welcome to voice an opinion and give advice. Most members here are not Japanese, but give opinions and advice to Japan every single day. Advice and opinions are hardly stopping anyone from deciding their own fate, so gee whiz, some of you really to calm the F down.

But hey, no surprise that people who have conniption fits over opinions and advice are also pro DP. Being self-righteous, perpetually angry and unstable lend themselves well to both positions.

......and always attempting to bury their own stuff that stinks to high heaven.

Sorry, the French government is STUPID, they can not even control all of the crime that goes on night and day in THEIR OWN COUNTRY and they want to lecturer JAPAN?? Keep on smoking drugs and burning cars as the young French like to do every week end in THAT country, which is unheard of here in JAPAN. God, I wish MEXICO also had the death penalty!!!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

One of those hung raped a young woman, then tied her to a chair and set her on fire and watched her burn to death.

Hanging was too good for him. France should learn to fix their own problems before condemning anyone else!
