Easy to say, if you have nothing else to do except think about bills that you have

and have not received.

You are not at fault if you done call, it is normal practise that the vendor is

supposed to provide the buyer with a bill and if he forgets to provide one, I

don't think there is any law in ant country in the world that states that the buyer

must remind the vendor to provide a bill for a service offered in the past.

The onus is on the vendor and to think otherwise is living in a dreamland.

Easy to say if you have nothing else to do? Let me guess, you're one of those people that looks at their bank account and as long as you see money in it, you think it's ok to spend it, right?

Responsible adults keep track of their spending and if they spent 50,000 euros, they know it and wonder why it hasn't been taken from their bank account.

Good luck telling the vendor you don't owe them money after you signed a contract, just because they didn't send you a bill. We aren't talking about not getting charged for a Whopper from Burger King. The charge for renting a freaking castle never came. Rich guys like Ghosn have personal accountants that keep track of stuff like that. Claiming he just assumed that it was free because he never got charged? That's living in 'dreamland'.

Oh., he didn't know he had to pay? Hahaha. White collar criminal thinking he can get away with anything...

Its all as clear as mud and amounts to what government tax collectors wish to see as taxable. And the article really not much help at all. If no money was exchanged, but only barter, then how do you decide there was a monetary benefit to be taxed? And what was the exact monetary amount of that benefit? Its easy to go with the 50, 000 euros in this case because, I assume, being government owned its non-profit.

But really, is he expected to keep a ledger for all barter deals he makes and figure some monetary value for the sake of the thieves in the tax office?

And if I see an inappropriate use of anything for the public to worry about here, its the government people running Versaille Palace making some barter deal rather than collect the cash they are meant to. The buck begins and ends with them if you ask me.

And what happens within Renault is Renault's problem short of perhaps needing to go to a civil court. If they gave him too much discretion its their problem.

No bill needed because Versailles had been paid in advance. It's mentionned in the article :

use of the sumptuous home of 17th century "Sun King" Louis XIV in exchange for a sponsorship deal between the state-owned palace and Renault.

The "mécénat" (sponsoring) deal is defined by law as a company giving funds to renovate a monument to, in exchange, get "tickets" to use the place for their company events plus a tax discount.

The sponsors are not allowed to resell the "tickets" for marriages, second marriages, Carlos's birthday, funerals, shichi go san, anniversaries, Carole's birthday, bar mitsvahs.... The busy man had no idea ?

Look at who signed the deal of his fair hand and personal limited edition Mont Blanc pen and announced that himself on Renault's page :

If Ghosn intended to foot the bill (s), he had the possibility of booking a hall directly from Versailles' reservation office, in his name.

Sshouldn't they prosecute the state owned palace as well?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I bet there are so many of so-called expats here defending Ghosn, who knows what fringe benefits mean.

First off, Let me set aside his own personal birthday party held at the same palace 2 years before this wedding, disguised as the greatest alliance anniversary where he didn't invite any Japanese executives ( or just one or two), secondly, Hey, Ghosn! you were getting married with your beloved one and did you really wish charging 50cents for your holly wedding to the company you rule as company expense??

What's really problem with you.? Really.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Versailles waived the usual 50,000-euro rental fee

Which would be about 50 cents to Ghosn.

That's why it makes Ghosn look soooo cheap

I mean, looking so obvious that Ghosn has been SO paranoid and desperate for brushing up his tax-evation techniques everyday for accumulating his own personal wealth as regretting his 50 cents personal expense for what? his own biggest personal event such as wedding ceremony! Was it something Carole asked for or what?

Who on earth would be claiming he is the one who V-recovered Nissan ? What a joke!

@drlucifer when you are a responsible person you pay your dues no matter what.

You pay no matter what, even when there is no bill ?

If a bill was presented and he didn't pay then he would be on the wrong.

There have been occasions that I didn't receive my nonthly internet bill for

almost 6 months which was the fault of the provider not me and they called

and apologised not me calling them. They even proposed I pay the back payments in

instalments if I wish.

Some poor minded Japanese just use the Japanese system of looking every fault to topple someone they think that they do not need anymore. This underhanded method is always used to topple important foreign people that the Japanese salaryman mind cannot deal with. Instigate problems that is what Renault should be aware of. Renault , Nissan & Mitsubishi should not waste time on going backwards and just going forward by changing everybody , who had caused these problems.

God, he is loaded, really who has a wedding at Versailles?....unless you are weighted down with cash. So far as I know he paid both tax and expenses and as far as I know was legally entitled to a bonus some time in the future.

But it is Japan and as everybody has to be the same or else isprisinded just to show you. Guilty or not.

Ghosn is not an original French man. Is there any discrimination in France against him?

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Can we hold weddings at say, the Osaka Castle in Japan? How much would it cost?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

All these police raids years after the fact are just ridiculous.  what do they expect to find?  An invoice down the back of a sofa?

Surely they could just ask Renault to provide details.  not like they have any interest in covering up for Ghosn Ghosn Gone.

Which would be about 50 cents to Ghosn.

If this is the kind of thing they are going to charge him with, the trial will be farce. If Moliere were alive today, he would make a play out of it.

50 cents or 50,000 euros, they are establishing a pattern of Ghosn spending company money and they seem to be doing a pretty good job of it.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

How do you go about paying for something you were not billed for.

Just wondering.

Ghosn, the big-spending former chief of both Renault and its Japanese partner Nissan

Oh, is he already proven guilty of that?

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

Didn't he reportedly pay the costs of the wedding back out of his own pocket?

He considered that Renault was his own pocket.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Please pay it by yourself with your marriage costs.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Didn't he reportedly pay the costs of the wedding back out of his own pocket?

Not according to his own lawyer:

"Ghosn's lawyer Jean-Yves Le Borgne, told AFP in February that the businessman "thought it was free" because he was never billed by Versailles and was ready to pay the money back."

If Ghosn is really the business genius they say he is, there is no way he would be dumb enough to believe something was free simply because he never got a bill for it.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

Didn't he reportedly pay the costs of the wedding back out of his own pocket? At the time it sounded like a rather large misunderstanding and nothing criminal, but I suppose due diligence is in order!
