A pointless exercise. Most people don't appreciate mass killing of whales.

Fortunately you are no judge and have no decisional powers otherwise the world you be a more draconian place.

Japan's "Hostage Justice " system may sway a Denmark Court to not agree to expedition.
Australia wont extradite to a country if there is a chance of a death sentence being imposed on the offender.
Extradiction Treaties dont always produce the outcomes sought.
funkymofo
No extradition treaty with Japan.

Should'nt Watson be tried in Antartica...with a jury of 12 penguins ???
bo

Personally, I have little time for Watson But "technically a pirate "
Technically ?
What on earth could this mean ?
If you mean "legally " a pirate , well OK....but "technically "
And too late ...Pirates ARE cool.

An animal rights activist who eats animals. Go figure.

I know people have an inexplicable, almost military anti-whaling attitude towards whaling, but this isn't about the whaling but about a dangerous and illegal "solution". The group mentality about whales eludes me since the major whaling countries limit the taking of whales. More deadly to them is the garbage, plastic, and chemicals dumped into the ocean unmentioned by people just like some of the posters here.

If it wouldn't be for Watson commercial whaling would have quietly died in the early 2000's. The market got smaller and smaller and there was no interest to save the "tradition". But then Watson came along, made the Japanese government dig in its nationalist heels with his 'methods' and the Japanese support for whaling was reawakened and grew stronger than ever, even only a few really wanted to eat whale meat. Watson is an attention grabber. He sure got attention but he didn't save one whale in the process. On the contrary, he managed to reinvigorate the support for whaling in Japan and thus contributed more to the continuous slaughter of whales than anybody else before him. For that he deserves to be thrown in a Japanese jail for the rest of his life.

There is a movement to boycott tourism to the Faroe Islands to pressure them to end their pilot whale and dolphin hunt. Norway also faces pressure to end whaling. Japan is not alone in being pressured to end whaling.

@fxgai,
Wrong. Bardot is part of the silent generation.

Even if this Mr.Watson is countable for some sort of crimes he should be processed in his country as we know how Japanese “injustice” hostage system work.

Meiyouwenti: "Now Watson may have a rare opportunity of savoring Japanese prison food."
You actually have a point -- that's about the only place that actually still probably serves whale, at discount government prices since it's rotting in the freezers with the dolphin meat. Well, that and forcing it on children in school lunches.

Desert Tortoise: Tourist go for the annual Grind, That about the only people go to the Faroe Inlands. Do you celebrate cultural events E.g Taking communion where you share in the blood of Christ and break bread. Or Thanks Giving where it is an annual event where you hunt turkeys for a communion meal. Now you go to the market. The Grindadrap is a annual cultural event and only allows the beaching of whales that entry the harbour. That it. If dolphins are in the harbour while this annual event the "grindadrap" is taking place they are also caught up in the herding and beach with the whales and slaughtered and divided up to the entire population of the Faroe. So a boycott would only enhance the tourism is my guest.

The USA was huge on Turtle soup and did wipe out a few species. Turtle, whale, goanna koala all are eaten or were. So why the hypocrisy over what people eat. The USA got a free pass with their preferred taste of turtle. The stock of whale are back to their numbers the same for turtles. I perfer orange unfertilised fish embryos and so do a lot of other consumers Of food products

Funny that when whales have their brains blown apart by explosive harpoons used by whalers that isn’t considered a terrorist act -sounds like terrorism to me!
Torelol
Paul Watson is a true hero. Someone who devoted his life for a good cause. Whales should be left alone!!
Desert Tortoise
I would not be too sure about that when you consider the senseless butchery the Danes condone in the Faroe Islands.

Japan's problem. Shouldn't even be Iceland's problem (more whales taken than Japan)? Shouldn't it be Norway's problem (more whales taken than Japan)? And all three countries limit the whales they take. Japan always takes the blame, but not the blonde, blue eyed people. Racism? I think so.
dagon
Don't make him sound any cooler than he actually is.
He hasn't killed anyone, just hurt some not very good people, so maybe the terrorist label is going a little too far.
I think it will look so bad for Japan and shine light on their hostage justice system they will try to dodge this one.
fxgai
A would-be assassin who had his head blown off the other day fits that bill…
And come on, people who work in the domain of sustainably utilizing renewable marine resources, are fine people. What specifically is not good about them?
No one was ever forcing Watson to eat whales, live and let live.
fxgai
Sorry but what to eat isn’t subject to the tyranny of a majority. Embrace diversity please. Or at least, tolerate it. It’s the 21st century already.

Mr Watson deserves a medal for his work to try and save whales. Damages done to Greenpeace vessels by Japans whalers far outstrps anything they did to the whalers. The whalers sank the sea shepherd by ramming it. If justice is to occur mr Watson should be released.
Samit Basu
My guess is that Watson will be released with a warning not to come back to Greenland again.
No need to draw international whaling criticism onto Greenland; it's Japan's problem.
Fighto!
Bardot must have gone senile.
Watson is technically a Pirate, and Sea Shepherd an eco-terrorist organisation. He has been evading authorities and INTERPOL for decades. Now - finally - he has been caught and arrested. Greenland, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, will 100% extradite Watson as they are big advocates of whaling and follow Rule of Law.
Pirate Watson could be looking at 10 years in a Japanese prison. Feed him whale meat 3 times a day as his staple meal!
Sh1mon M4sada
Greenpeace kicked Watson out for his extremism. Says it all.
IMHO, terrorist is a more fitting description of him.

Boomers for boomers

A record number of tourists are visiting Japan and , according to a Japanese government survey, a primary reason for their visit is food. Now Watson may have a rare opportunity of savoring Japanese prison food.
