Sick.

Horrible crime and sadly a live was lost thanks to this criminal that shows no remorse for her actions, it will be very difficult to know how much responsibility the mother actually shares but what is clear is that the government failed protecting a child here.

Pathetic mom, even if she was a victim. She well deserves the 5 years. The subject of the story is a vampire. No use to society.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Ahhh I'm not a victim-blaming but when it comes to a mother I know much better about my child.

15 years is not enough for this sad excuse of a person. Not only did she ended the life of someone who could've done a lot of good in this world, but done so in one of the most torturous ways possible. I pray for the eternal peace of that young soul and I hope that there is a special place in hell for people like these.

Given the circumstance that the main culprit was plump, she should receive the same experience the boy was being through to truly repent her crime.

Bizarre. So she had 2 million yen to give to her manipulative friend, she couldn’t feed her child? I don’t get it. The mother basically killed her child and she only gets 5 years? It doesn’t matter whether or not she was manipulated, she killed her child. Japanese justice.

In June, when passing judgment on Ikari, Tomita acknowledged that the mother could be considered a victim, giving her a five-year sentence, much shorter than the 10 years sought by prosecutors.

where do they get those judges? 10 years minimum.

As for the "female dog" that manipulated her, 15 years ONLY??

What the hell is wrong with the Judges here? She should have gotten life.

Starve them both to death. Sickos

"Misery loves company!"

It seems obvious that Akahori was miserable and jealous of Ikari's life, so she seeked to ruin it and take everything from Ikari.

Unfortunately, it worked; and hopefully, Akahori will spend the rest of her life paying for it.

Where was Ikari's husband when their son was slowly dying?

That is some true life modern drama-horror movie stuff right there.

This is a prime example of a premeditated crime of great cruelty which took the Kari's 'friend' Akahori years of intrigue and planning to carry out the slow-paced murder of Kari's son Shojiro by day by day starvation till he died at five years of age. Kari was brainwashed by her so-called friend Akahori into giving her enormous sums of money as well as to allow her son Shojiro to be slowly starved to death. The mother is not guilty of any crime and should be freed. But her 'friend' Akahori should be sentenced to 15 x 5 = 75 years. As she is now 49, it means she will be freed when she is 124 years of age. The good die young. But the evil woman Akahori may still live to be freed in 2097.

In my opinion, she should have gotten more than 15 years. Make it 30 years at least.

She's 49 now, meaning she will be out of jail at 64. Japanese women are still pretty much very capable at that age.

She pleaded not guilty and showed no remorse for her crime. After getting out of jail she could do it all over again, and other children may suffer.

A 49-year-old woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday after a Japanese court found that she had manipulated her friend to starve her 5-year-old son to death.

Emiko Akahori psychologically controlled the friend, Rie Ikari, 40, with lies

ummm…..what?

how do you “psychologically control” a 40 year old “friend?”

How weak and ignorant is the “victim?”

How sick is the manipulator?

What is this? A synopsis from one of them J-Dramas?

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

sentence is not correct.

eye for eye teeth for teeth.

correct sentence will be starve her to death and all time to "manipulate" her...its not a human but evil.zero sympathy.

Many problems (if not most) in society starts in a fatherless home.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

At first I was going to say that's it? But then I realized she is going to come out of prison at a retired age and hopefully she enjoys scrubbing toilets for the rest of her life cause that's the only job she'll be able to do. I also hope they confiscated most of her assets as well.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The mother deserves at least as long a sentence as her manipulative "friend".

This story makes me so sad.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Assuming the kid went to school (I'm guessing attending school is mandatory in Japan) how did his teachers not clue into his deteriorating condition and report it to the relevant authorities? This whole case reads bizarre - I don't understand how one's motherly instincts csn be overridden by psychological manipulation. What did the manipulator have over the mum exactly to allow for such brainwashing?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Friend talks mom into killing child, 15 years. Mom who actually kills child, 5 years. Lot of sense this makes.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

I can see a person being manipulated, and giving over money, that's common enough-

But not to the degree that you would be unaware that you were harming/starving your own child.

That is truth staring right at you.

The judge is inept.

The psychopath is guilty, but so is the mother.

Also, that poor little boy had no pre-school teachers, no govt. agency intervention, no health checks, no neighbors, friends or relatives, and no father, to check in on him?

R.I.P. Little soul.

The two women became acquainted in 2016 and began conspiring from around August 2019 to cut down the amount of food Ikari's son Shojiro received

This statement proves they are both as guilty as each other and should recieve the same sentence. The mother may have been influenced by the other woman but she ultimately starved her son to death.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

WTH is wrong with people! What mother is going to starve their own child no matter what anyone else says??? Unbelievable! The poor liitle man!

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

correct sentence will be starve her to death

Considering she is morbidly obese, that may take a while. Ironic, such a fat woman starving someone to death.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Just what are the odds of someone this evil finding someone this gullible? There has to be much more to this story.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Sorry but the mother is as much to blame for this murder if not more. She deserves 15yrs too.

I’d suggest Akahori receive the same treatment she implemented towards that poor kid.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Anyone who bullies, uses threats, blackmail and manipulation is purely evil. She preyed on the weak and took advantage of them. 15 years is too short and I'm sure when she gets out, she will still be the same evil person. I hope her name is forever remembered and that others are made aware who she is and stays well away from her. She should forever be blacklisted.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Geez some people just don’t get it! What parent would EVER do this to their child???

she has a huge responsibility and even though the evil person who “took advantage” of here should be put away for a long time as well the mother should never have been a mother if she can do this to her own child!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And of course no one noticed that a 5 year old was wasting away.... Or rather no one said anything.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Old people and conspiracies

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Good start, but should have been longer. Hopefully, for her it is a life sentence and she never sees the outside of a prison again. As for the mom, put a picture of her son in her cell that cannot be removed or defaced, but stares at her day in and day out for the duration of her term, asking why.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The victim is the child.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So Rie Ikari starved her 5-year-old son to death, at that age didn't the school system wonder why he did not attend school. Where were the grandparents during this ordeal???? The father of the 5-year-old boy was he so stupid or blind that he didn't see what was happening to his son. SO SAD that SO MANY people FAILED this little boy .... RIP my Friend ....
