Good job. Hardly see that 4,000 officers was necessary but it it the result that counts. Not the brightest criminal. Thought for sure he would`ve headed into Tokyo right away, not be hanging out in a public park relatively near from where he escaped.

Interesting about the cellphone. It was mentioned yesterday specifically that the did not have his phone with him when he escaped so I wonder how they were able to track it. Received from a friend who was then caught, perhaps? Anyway good work.

From what they described on TV he was caught because they did have another police officer in the direction he ran in, and that was enough to make him give up on running. Last night was so wet and miserable in the Kanto area that he probably decided he was better off behind bars where at least he would be warm and dry!

I am happy to hear this news. However, it's a little fearsome that police can identify accurately where anyone with a cell phone is.

I used three train stations last night and today, and there were police stationed outside each of them. I'm thinking that they were looking for this guy, and that these officers are included in the 4000 count.

I don't know. 4000 police, and it only took one dude pulling his cell logs to track him down. Whoever did that bit of work needs a raise. They are obviously smarter than the dickheads who let him escape.

The people must be relieved for the time being. All we need now is a speedy trial and convict him for the crimes he's committed and send him to prison. The Yokohama District Court and branch offices have many criminal cases on its dockets.

Good job capturing this creep, but it's strange that police is going through a lot of trouble of trying to cover his face while they bring him into custody. We already know what the guy looks like from all the news coverage.

I'm just glad this is over. Schools were very alert and some had children walking in groups, teachers posted every few blocks, and parents accompanying their children to school. He couldn't have been armed with a gun or a bomb or anything, but it sure seemed like it.

If he were innocent, why would he escape? What could he hope to accomplish? He'd have to spend his entire life in hiding and how could he prove his innocence? This isn't the fugitive where David Janssen spends 4 years on the run looking for the one-armed man.

Have been watching today's events over and over again on TV. Sort of feel sorry for the dude. For two days he was like a cult hero on TV ... with his pictures being shown over and over. Then suddenly he's caught ... and now he is rapidly becoming history.

As for the cellphone ... he was talking with a friend or friends ... and police were able to zero on his possible location. Such modern technology is good for people with Alzheimer's Disease ... if an oldster gets lost and is carrying a cellphone ... just zero in on where he is using it.

Apparently, according to TV, when the three policemen caught him in Yokohama ... he was trying to flee again ... this time by running through a small stream. Guess the water slowed him down. After being caught, he allegedly said something like, "Don't worry ... I'm not going to run away again." Maybe he was both cold and hungry ... and was secretly hoping that he could have the warmth and comfort of a cell ...

He did not have his phone when he ran away. Seems like they knew who he called on his phone, then checked who they were and triangulated where their phone(s) was / were. So, a couple of officers would have been assigned to go to where each of those phones was and just wait.

Glad this guy was caught. My wife speaks very good English, but even I was scratching my head when she left me a note that read., "Please lock the door - there is a criminal there." She was not home at the time, so I was very surprised to read this. And yes, I locked the door!

I just heard on the news that when they finally got him (he was hiding in a small creek) that more than 100 police had him surrounded! More than 100!! Incredible.

Wouldn't it be easier just to aprehend the suspect when this so-called "exchange" with his friends took place?

The various reports states that police obtained the list of his friends through his cellphone records. Methinks the police questioned every single one of them and as a result, one fessed up that he/she lent him the cell phone.

That is not how the law works, you don't go to prison for rape because you ran away from questioning - or perhaps it works like that in Japan?

Glad they got him. I was wrong in my comment on the other article, he hadn't fled far. Few funds? Or not smart enough?

Still tho, all those boots on the ground they set out, just a show to save face. They ended up getting him via normal detective work 2-10 ppl could've been doing.
