A 69-year-old member of a crime syndicate was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing a woman in a love hotel in Okayama City.
Police said the suspect, Yoshio Kawano, has admitted to the charge. Police said he belongs to the Oishi-gumi, an affiliate gang of the Yamaguchi-gumi.
According to police, they received a call from an employee of the hotel in Naka Ward at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The employee said a man staying at the hotel told him he killed the woman. The man then left in a car.
Police rushed to the hotel and found the body of a woman in her 40s in the hotel room toilet. She had stab wounds to her stomach and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Shortly after, Kawano’s car was located and stopped in Kita Ward. Police said he got out of the car and started threatening officers with a knife before he was subdued.

That poor, nameless woman. Stabbed in the stomach - not a quick or easy way to die. I hope he lives a long and miserable life in a crappy prison, and hat his dying is slow, prolonged, lonely, and painful.

69 years old and still in a gang? I guess the pension benefits aren't what they used to be?
Strangerland
What are you talking about? You can spend tens of thousands of yens on love hotels. If you've got the money, there are some pimp ones.
Other times you want a short romp - why would you go to a normal hotel?
They are for different purposes.
Have you never been to a love hotel? Your comment would indicate you probably haven't. Never once have I been to a love hotel and even considered a normal hotel. It's like the difference between a convenience store and a supermarket. Sure, there is overlap, but for the most part they serve different purposes.

Hullo Norman Goodman - why don't you help us out and speculate on an acceptable motive for stabbing someone in the stomach multiple time and then leaving them to die in the bathroom?

"it's sad to see men at ages approaching mortality behaving like drugged up young psychopaths"
Yeah here its never to old to be a syndicated thug life.
DaDude
The short cut to my house is through a street of love hotels. I see plenty of older people driving in and out of their parking lots.

It's sad to see men at ages approaching mortality behaving like drugged up young psychopaths. At an age when anyone wth a brain is thinking about the deeper meaning of life and what kind of memories they will leave behind, this pathetic wretch is stabbing a woman in the stomach for, most likely, some completely insignificant reason. The IQ of a snail.

Oh, is this your first day on Japan Today?

Respectable people take their dates to love hotels and NOT a "normal" hotel here! Why you ask?
Normal hotels would kick your butt out! Not to mention "normal" hotels dont have the privacy nor ambiance of a love hotel!

This made me laugh a lot, Strangerland. Thank you for the much-needed wit today.
Old dudes sometimes have the kind of money that can make women 30 years younger very agreeable.

Japanese prisons don't work like western prisons.

Back in the day I lived in the red light district of Tsuji in Okinawa, both love hotels and soaplands all over the place, often had a drink or two with the lasses that worked at the soaps. Quite a wonderful time! I never asked them about their work, but they often talked about the older gents and mothers who brought their sons to their establishments

@maria Self defense. Not saying that's what happened or its likely, but its an acceptable motive.
That said I was not hinting at an acceptable motive. I was saying that knowing the actual motive is going to inform me on how I judge this man and if I condemn Japanese society at large or not. For the man: its quite different if he did this for being insane or if he did this because she robbed him or did it because she laughed at his tiny junk. My judgement would be different in each case...shades of grey to you I suppose. For society: Well I cannot really think of how to blame society except to say that a general intolerance of a great many human needs and unquenchable human desire has handed the mafia a nice black market to work with, giving them power and riches.JerseyDevil

When I was in my mid-twenties, that shortcut was in my neighborhood too.

Actually, No!
You take respectable dates to regular hotels because a respectable date wouldn't want to go to a love hotel. They expect to stay with you overnight somewhere.
Typically, couples with at last one person wearing a facemask, living with parents, one-night stand, quickies, and/or business arrangements go to love hotels unless you are tourist trying to save cash or check one off of your bucket list.
I do agree that the more expensive Love hotels do bring a little excitement and entertainment.

20 years into the 21st century and some are still referring to women as "chicks".

Let's hope he meets some younger rival gang members on the inside. He's toast

I would really love to know the story behind this one! 69 years old, love hotel?
Yummy Barry
69 years old and you can't afford a normal hotel to take your side chick to?
Norman Goodman
Sure would be nice to know a motive before I go pronouncing judgement and condemning Japanese society at large.
