A 58-year-old member of a yakuza gang was wounded in a shooting in Okayama on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the shooting took place at around 2:35 p.m. in Kita Ward near the office of the Ikeda-gumi, a gang affiliated with the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Police said the victim, from Ehime Prefecture, was shot in the stomach. He was taken to hospital, along with another member of the gang, a 62-year-old man who was hit by the shooter’s getaway car. Police said both men are in a stable condition.

The gunman, identified as Akio Kishimoto from Tottori Prefecture, was arrested at around 3 p.m., police said, adding he is also a member of the gang. He was found sitting in his car parked on a street. A gun was in his possession.

Police said the shooting took place after a religious service was held for a gang member who was slain on May 31, 2016.

A gang member shoots another gang member at a memorial for a gang member who was probably killed in a shooting at the hands of another gang member. Sounds about right.

A lot of old men, due to Japan's incredibly aging society.

Gun violence in Japan = Yakuza.

Even if they are not mentioned specifically, in incidents involving guns in Japan it will invariably lead to a criminal syndicate.

The shooter was apprehended within 25 minutes of the shooting... great cops or terrible criminals?

This is the way they do it. They've made their point to each other. The designated hitman first does the job he has been given, and then sits back to take the inevitable punishment under the law of the land, which is not Yakuza law. The gang will look after any family members while the fallguy is inside.

So sad, I'm sure he was innocent and presumed guilty based on his affiliation. Hope he gets better soon.

On TV just now I see that the cops have managed to get a motive. Apparently this was punishment for a group who changed loyalties in the on-going internecine struggle within the Yamaguchi Gumi

The primary difference between yakuza and yakuba is that the actions are reported differently.

Kinda weird considering there is a police car posted outside of that headquarters 24/7 and it has always been like that at least for the past 5-6 yrs.

so...where were the patrolmen when this happened right outside of the building?

strange...
