Ghosn family seeks U.N. help against 'judicial persecution' in Japan

As Mr Ghosn is under suspicion of financial malfeasance on a grand scale surely it would be remiss of the Legal Authorities to base the treatment of Mr Ghosn entirely on the opinions of the Court Of Public Opinion.

The Japanese government and especially immigration and judicial systems are famous for ignoring everything the UNHCR and OHCHR have ever said. Both agencies have put out official reports blasting Japan for its treatment of foreigners and its failure to abide by treaties and agreements regarding standards and rules of care of people being detained which the nation signed.

Japan just doesn't care and the UN has zero power.

In any country, the host country is helping foreigners, if anything.

He is guilty, wait and see.

And as for shady practices...let's see...paper company with wife as president, off-shore accounts sending money to and from shell corporations, Nissan money sent to son's "company", and the list goes on.

For the posters espousing the system, if it was you in his place how would you really feel?

I would probably have quit while I was ahead and had gotten away with the first $100million (or whatever it was)...allegedly.

Then again, it’s probably hard to stop at any number.

I love Nissan.

Since I was 8. I'm 46 now.

But this episode is something that one cannot condone. The treatment of Carlos Ghosn in this whole affair has been unacceptable. Not to mention highly embarrassing and of corporate failure, regardless of who wins and who doesn't.

If Carlos Ghosn is found not guilty then Nissan is going to be in very bad position on all fronts.

Other countries like USA or France also have high conviction rate, 96% or higher.  Japan's prosecution rate is very low, more than 1/3 of the arrested are not in fact prosecuted,  whereas in USA prosecution rate is very high.

Give it a rest and let’s move on. The Japanese justice system may not be the fairest in the world at all times but the truth will come out and Carlos will very likely be put away for several years. Bring on the dislikes...

I really don't know what to make of all this, but one thing is for sure, I won't ever buy a Nissan or related product as a direct result of this matter.

Perhaps if Ghosn didn't conduct shady practices he wouldn't have found himself in this situation.

And perhaps you can let him have his day in court before lynching him. The process is just as important as the outcome, and right now, the process is screwed up big time!

How you may ask? Because it has manged, with the willing assistance of the media here, to try and convict this man in the court of public opinion.

Meanwhile Kelly is a free man, the Americans raised their eyebrows their own countryman was imprisoned by this espionage by Saikawa and in less than a flash the gov here released him.

Yet even involving the UN will do nothing, other than possibly harm the image of the Japanese "justice" system. On the other hand Japan has leverage against the UN with funding, so if push comes to shove, watch this too get brushed aside and ignored by Japan, and the UN as well!

Japan has a history of not responding well to international intervention and condemnation. This could result in his bail being revoked by this pathetic legal system that can only win cases by torturing arrestees until they breakdown and confess regardless of guilt.

The stipulations behind his bail conditions are inhumane. There's no doubt about it. Japan needs to be held accountable for its 99.9% conviction rate, which it gets through a myriad of bullying tactics from the prosecution process and inhumane judiciary.

It's interesting that the Ghosn Family, having lived in Japan for quite a long time,are only now complaining about the "violation of rights" and "arbitrary detention" which reportedly are an integral part of Japanese Law. That they are now directly affected must be playing a big part.
