Hard to know who you can trust anymore.

There was a time when you could trust In Japan. A shadow of the country it once was.

You never know. It can happen anywhere and for no reason. I was assaulted by a black teenage girl from behind when I was ten. She came running up from behind me and slammed her knuckled fist right into the middle of my back on my vertebrae. I went down to the ground on my knees and couldn’t get get up for several minutes. It was the most painful thing I ever experienced. Had I done it, it would have been a hate crime. Luckily she didn’t turn me into a cripple that day, but she tried . , My doctors have told me my backbone is rather messed up.

Anyway, always be aware of your surroundings, especially what’ or who is behind you.

Japan may not be as safe as it used to be but it's still much safer here than in other countries. The numbers of murder cases per 100,000 in the popuation for 2020 ( the latest year for which figures area available):

US 6.28

Canada 1.97

France 1.32

Finland 1.64

Japap 0.25

The police said the suspect claims to be under 20 and the younger victim is between 10 and 19.

What's with the vagueness of the ages? Can't the police find out this type of info before putting it out in the media?

Moderator: The police have released the ages of the victims.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Horrible, but at least the two have survived. And thank the gods they don't have access to guns here like in other nations. Can you imagine?

8 ( +21 / -13 )

Come on, Japan is still pretty damn safe. And safe or unsafe, many of us are safe.

If some psychotic is wandering the streets looking for a victim, they're gonna give the gaijin walking by a hard pass.

-12 ( +14 / -26 )

There’s easier ways to die than harm other people.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Random nuts of all kinds are all over the place so it pays to be as vigilant as possible whenever possible.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Wild, wild, story. You were ten right?? Whatre you worried about, Just claim self defence next time. How heavy was that 13 year old who punched you out?

lol- probably true

Seriously, what makes a 15yr kid want to do this to get the death penalty ?? Bullied?abused?school? She’s still just a kid.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

I’ve said many times before. The death penalty seems to be more of a motivation for murder than a deterrent in Japan.

0 ( +16 / -16 )

Luckily very far from her strange wish, as there is not any death penalty when she’s still a teenager and the two attacked victims survived. The problem here is more that this crazy little ticking time bomb will now also get plenty of possibilities to repeat similar attempts in the future, until she is maybe ‘successful’ one day.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I feel terrible for the victims of this deranged girl but also for the girl ... I don't sympathize, I just feel terrible that she could be so sick as to do something for a punishment that she'd not receive, and ultimately, would mean a kind of suicide. In Japan or the Marshall Islands, a show of societal decadence.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Unfortunately for her, since she's a minor, i doubt she'll be given the death penalty. This whole situation is bizarre - what exactly prompted her to try for the death penalty by stabbing two unsuspecting people?Excuse my crudeness, but if she so desperately wanted out, there are other ways that don't involve harming innocent bystanders.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

She actually wouldn't get the death penalty as a minor, for a start. She should have googled it beforehand. Stupid girl.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

because she "wanted to get the death penalty,"

There is something deeply disturbing about that comment, the authorities need to dig a bit deeper, why has she got deep underlying death feeling? is this caused through school pressure, home? this girl seriously need help. is this a cry for help? lucky or unlucky for her she didnt kill this inocent lady and her daughter, they well may be scared mentally and physically for the rest of there lives.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The death penalty doesn’t seem to be much of a deterrent.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Hmm...She's too young to know what she's even talking about. My view is since she has essentailly requested death, and wastefully delivered it to two others, she should be kept alive and locked up indefinately. Put her to use somehow.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

She should be charged and tried as an adult, but of course she won't be -- the whole change to be able to charge youths as adults in serious crimes was just more lip service. She'll go to a reformatory AT WORST and be out in a few years if even that long, where she'll be free to do it again if she so desires, which she likely will do since reformatories are not at all for the purpose of reform. If she hated life before, she'll not get rid of that hate any time soon, methinks.

And while I feel sorry that a person so young felt as she did, I really, REALLY wish people that want to die and absolutely cannot do anything to try and fix that and will not seek help would start with themselves and leave others alone.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Please. The girl is clearly mentally ill. No sympathy for her actions, obviously, but the proper course would be to lock her up in a mental care facility until she is able to control her actions, however long that takes.

“ If some psychotic is wandering the streets looking for a victim, they're gonna give the gaijin walking by a hard pass. “

.. that’s true; nutters in Japan do not mess with the gaijin; … would be interesting to read (an article) about that; / .. (and) (another “interesting” fact) most of the stories we hear (in Japan) involve family members.

..

“ She actually wouldn't get the death penalty as a minor, for a start. She should have googled it beforehand. Stupid girl. “

*Stupid** (little) girl, indeed.*

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The police need to interview her teachers, parents, friends to try and discover why she carried out the stabbings. The victims were probably fortunate the knives had short blades.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

A variant on suicide by cop, she needs serious psychological help and to understand the causes of this. To attempt suicide by harming others is not a normal behaviour pattern, there is something very seriously wrong with this girl and/or her background.

Japan Executes 2 Murderers, Including Teenage Killer

Japan Tuesday executed two convicted murderers, including one who committed his crime while in his teens, the justice ministry said, ignoring calls from international rights groups to end capital punishment.

"the girl had black hair and looked Young'??? In Tokyo that's about 70% of the population of around 14 million people so??? Not too sure if that kind of description would really help the cops or not in Tokyoland.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Japanese news told a different story: she did the stabbings as “practice” for killing her parents…

The Yamato spirit.

Kamikaze girl.

Never relax!

Last week I was walking through that long and dark park that connects Kinshicho Station all the way to Skytree, its pitch black particularly when you walk under roadways. Anyway it was around 10pm when I heard someone running from behind while I was crossing one of the darkest areas. For a split second I thought "this is Japan" but psychos dont choose the country they are born and these articles just reinforce the reality that the world can be an ugly place and being kind to others and minding your own business doesnt grant you unconditional safety. That night it was only a jogger that decided to sprint out of the blue but I didnt take any chances. Please educate your kids (especially if they were born and raised here) to stay alert and never take safety for granted.

The Avenger

Seki, 44, was convicted of killing four people in Chiba, southeast of Tokyo, in 1992 when he was 19, the ministry said.

He was 19 years and executed at 44. He also murdered 4 people.

The girl is 15 years. She did not murder anyone.

The girl is 15 years. She did not murder anyone.

The situation in the quote is being treated as an hypothetical, that death penalty was out of the possibilities even if she actually murder several people. She was not planning to get the a death sentence for attempting murder.

There was a time when you could trust In Japan. A shadow of the country it once was.

Japan is neither safe nor unsafe. Japan is just like any other country.

The common misunderstanding about japan is that japan is the ultimate safe country. Fact is, it never has been. There are plenty of problems within japan's borders and yes, violence is one of them.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

This is really sad, she only wants notoriety. why involve innocent bystanders?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Give the selfish little coward 30 years inside to grow up, and reflect on her evil actions.

I just hope the poor, innocent mother and daughter recover fully - physically and mentally.

I know a park (scary af at night) next to Kinshichou Station, but that’s pretty far from Skytree and not connected (20-25 m. walk); which park are you talking about? anyway, scary, huh. :/

If some psychotic is wandering the streets looking for a victim, they're gonna give the gaijin walking by a hard pass.

Whatever naivety helps you to sleep at night...

I was once waiting in the ticket machine line at Shiodome Station and the next thing I knew, this random Japanese guy randomly punched me in the chest area.

And I am not a small guy. I am a 6'2", 200lb+, ice hockey player.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

My goshh, really scary better to watch our back while walking. if she has a mental problem better to speak her parents or anyone close to her, but why going out and attacking innocent people.?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I wonder why she wanted to kill her mother (or parents).

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

She wanted to do a practice run to see if she was capable of killing a person because she wanted to kill her mother. Their is definitely trouble at home .... if this girl is released by the police the family should put her up for adoption or just get rid of her cause she is dangerous ....

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I always wonder when I read of stories where someone stabs/shoots/kills someone they don't even know for no good reason, why they can't do the same to someone who actually deserves it.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Wearing pants and a T-shirt, which had blood on it, the girl "had black hair and looked young," the 28-year-old man said.

A 15 year year old Japanese girl who "had black hair and looked young"? You don't say!

Sorry but I thought this sentence sounded very odd. LOL

1 ( +1 / -0 )

According to more in-depth coverage in the JP news media, wanting the death penalty was not her primary motive. Her main goal was to kill her mother and her sibling. She was only using the random strangers as a test run to see if she was capable. Then, she was going to kill her family members, and hoped for the death penalty after that.
