I realize she's emotional due to her sons predicament but she has to know there's not much Abe Can do. The demands being made are toward Jordan, not Japan.

Have you watched any of her interviews? Ishido is eating it up more than the media. She seems more concerned with her own agenda than her son's life, possibly because she didn't even raise him.

On one hand he is calling their actions despicable, and in effect calling them the very same thing, and then on the other hand asking them to show compassion and free the guy.

When one is negotiating from a weak position it does not seem to me to very smart to call your antagonist names and them expect them to listen to your requests.

The one thing that would bother IS the most is NO press coverage what-so-ever, but that will never happen either, will it.

Somehow I have more sympathy for the Jordanian pilot than Goto. He was sent to fly over Syria by his government. Goto to the contrary was warned not to go there. That is a very different starting point.

If anyone thinks that Prime Minister Abe has any sway over what Jordan will or won't do, well, they are fooling themselves or they are trying to place Prime Minister Abe into a no win situation because of your political beliefs.

An announcement just flashed at the top of the tv saying that the Jordanian government has issued a statement that if ISIS guarantees the life of their pilot, they will give them the female suicide bomber ISIS has asked for.

This is not a Japan government matter as this journalist knew full well the dangerous situations and instead the pleas should be to the company he represents to assist. My taxes are best used to help Japan as a country and whole not on people who continue to place themselves at risk. If this was an official representation and on location as a means of conducting Japanese affairs then yes the government should interceded. Jordon is not Japan nor does it speak for Japan and vice versa. Japan as a government and country has no play in working any solutions with these terrorists.

If a swap is made between Jordan and ISIS leaving out Japan's negotiations, there can only be one sad fate for Goto.

I just wished these terrorists didn't exist. What they do is too much over the top already and even the powerful America cannot do anything. Looks like we are already experiencing a WW2 but it's more behind the scenes, not named or perhaps in the name of "terrorism". The most annoying is those who do all that are some tribals, very correct to say that reasoning is not possible with them. But in any case, Goto and his friend should not be blamed for what happened to them. They tried to be optimistic and confident by going there but when you are not there experiencing it, you can't tell what it is and how bad it is. I just really hope he is not suffering too much physically and I still think that miracles happen and he should keep the hope, perhaps in his country. Reading the other articles it seemed that people who are released later become kidnappers themselves, so perhaps this is the only condition that they agree to release the people upon.

That’s pretty harsh. The pilot was (hopefully) going to kill scores of them, while Goto was, foolishly perhaps, just looking for Yukawa. Anyway, didn’t ISIS say that they would release, alive I assume, both the pilot and Goto for the suicide bomber?

there is one ISIS in Japan, probably an insignificant member though, Ko Nakata. maybe he is offered something but we can see here that his appeal doesn't even matter for the IS in Syria

Well I don't fault Jordan for doing this: if you want more ISIS bombings you have to do everything possible to make the pilots doing those bombings feel safe.

This is like a tv drama. It's a perfect event to get the agenda going. Pulling at the heart strings of the Japanese people, Isis has become the useful idiots to set the argument for the transformation of japan.

So it looks like the West are going to have to stand up to groups like ISIS - and get criticized for it - whilst other countries pander to their whims.

I just read in the UK Independent that the hold up is Jordan wants confirmation that their pilot is still alive. Goto holding up his photo was hardly proof.

People think about it in too many ways like a chess game move. Let's be objectives! Save him, thats all there is to think about. Be weak once to win, release the prisoner and go after them later.

Well, if this deal goes down, it will probably have to go down like this:

The Jordianian Govt will want to ensure the Pilot is safe before handing over Al-Rishswi, so ISIS will have to let him go first.

After the pilot is let go from ISIS and he is safe, The Jordanians will need to let out Al-Rishawi and ensure she makes it over to ISIS safe because they will still have Goto.

After Al-Rishawi is safe, ISIS will then need to let go Goto and ensure he makes it somewhere safe - like the nearest International Airport or the nearest safe town to Westerners (wouldn't want him tossed out of a car just anywhere).

Hopefully, it will go down that way.

I don't think Goto works for any company, but Abe just pledged $200 million dollars to these war-torn areas. And a lot of Goto's work is getting the message out to the Japanese people about these areas and their struggles. So in a way, his work is more connected to the government than any company.

Problem of so called "West World" is that they talk and it's only thing they can actually do. Same with North Korea, same with Africa, same with terrorism, same with Russia, same with Ukraine, same with this, same with everything. They just talk. There is a technology here, yo. Tracking devices, drones, stuff. Just find sobs and eliminate. I can't believe they can't do this, they just don't care.

This is where good international diplomacy comes in handy. Japan has no good will built up. It's stayed out of almost every international crisis, skirmish, big international decision, offering nothing but pledges of money or nuke technology and has been content being an isolationist.

Now when Japan wants something, any kind of request for a deal seems sudden and insincere. Jordan wants its pilot and is crazy enough to make a deal, getting Goto is low on their priority list.
