in japan, gossip and discrimination for families of young criminals is worse than the young idiots sentencing.
it is like collective punishment. Parents will suddenly lose their jobs, friends, community status etc. depression, alcoholism, domestic violence and divorce could happen

Or worst, depression can be easily followed by suicide.
So far there is no incentives how to make more convinient to rise family in Japan. Only punishment when family considered to be failed in rising their child that lead to offense by minor.

I have seen too many cases where 18 and 19 year olds got away with horrendous crimes because they where considered "juveniles", so I completely agree with this change.

I second Zaphod's sentiment. I also hope that the 15 year old male who followed a young woman into a public bathroom in Fukuoka and murdered her after she refused to sleep with him.
