Sounds like Japanese gangsters. And if so, the restaurant management should be investigated. It is illegal to do business with Yakuza.

The news definitely exaggerated the whole thing. There is probably around a 100 customer there but only a couple of guys fought while the rest watch or try to break up the fight. And most probably left after seeing things getting out of hand.

It's a gang group calling themselves "Chinese Dragon." They were holding a party for one(s?) just released from prison.

Their background and cultural heritage are a bit complicated. The group members are Japanese nationals, the second or third generations of Japanese war orphans who were abandoned and raised in China at the time of war end. Those orphans as well as their kids were born and growing up in China, some may be "half" with Chinese and Japanese parents, and accompanied their Japanese parents going "home" to Japan. Many are unable to speak Japanese.

Though the former war orphans' (mal-) adaptation had already been addressed, the acculturation issues for their offspring are rather new and overlooked.

The quai-gang are loosely organised without a hierarchy. Unlike most yakuza crime syndicates, they are not (yet) designated as anti-social organisations subject to prohibitions/regulations on their activities. The guasi-gang is said to offer the yakuza a loophole.

However, it’s still quite a remarkable social career to make it in two generations or so from a war orphan to a guest at a French restaurant in Tokyo, and that in significant numbers. lol

That French place on top of Sunshine 60 is always filled with yaks and the like. Great food and an even better view! Had my wedding reception there. Something I should have known at the time: never marry a 3rd generation Japanese-Korean girl who says she works for her father who is in the business of “waste management”. Not surprised at all!

The cops waited until they had all scarpered before turning up. How convenient for those involved.

No surprise that the keystone-cops didn't all rush round there - they weren't going to risk getting hurt..... just best to trundle along later once the action's died down and make a quasi-assessment of the situation, and maybe mull over the preparation of a report.
