Police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old Ground Self-Defense Force member for breaking into the apartment of a woman and hugging her, in Kumamoto in August.

Takahiro Yamanaka, who is stationed at the GSDF's Kita-Kumamoto base, was arrested for allegedly breaking into the victim's apartment around 11 p.m. on Aug 16 while she was sleeping. Police said Yamanaka, who was returning home for a holiday, hugged the sleeping victim who is in her 20s. He fled when she woke up and screamed.

Yamanaka has admitted to the allegations, police said.

How in the world could he have been caught for this? He either turned himself in, or the girl knew who he was and gave him up.

with her window open and the mosquito screen door closed. So it was not technically breaking and entering.

Technically, that IS breaking and entering. Legally speaking, there was seal around the mosquito screen door, put there when the woman closed it. He broke that seal when he opened the door. That is what breaking and entering is. Its only multiplied if something actually gets broken in the process.

Just had a readup on this elsewhere and it was in August, the hottest part of the summer, when this university student was asleep with her window open and the mosquito screen door closed. So it was not technically breaking and entering.

One article I read said that he 女子学生に抱きつくなどした疑い is "suspected of doing things like putting his body in close contact with hers" ...

Bet he's done it before and completed his mission many times, but the woman in each case so far has been too afraid to scream.

Having a hug is nothing wrong, and she was lucky that this was all. He could proceed further but he didn't. His Mom should teach him, not to disturb girls while they are asleep. Will he get slap on the wrist from judge? 'We will wait and see said the blind.'

I wonder if he'll spend time in jail and have a confession "beat" out of him? No, just give him back to the SDF, where the officers will ask, "was she worth it" or "do you have pictures".

He will be forced to bow several times, apologize tearfully and beg not to be tossed aside. To which a major will ask him to show an open hand and smack it lightly with a ruler. Then he will be ordered to take his thumb from his mouth and get back to duty.

wait a minute, was there any connection between the two? hard to believe that the guy randomly broke into somebody's house, found a sleeping beauty sleeping (at 11, kinda early, huh?) and started hugging her. a former girlfriend? a girl he knew and wanted to surprise her and tell her how much he loves her? or just plainly the guy is nuts maybe?

He just felt like he needed a hug. He should have yelled, "Gomen kudasai" before entering.

If he claims he was drunk when it happened then surely he'll be pardoned?

I think there will massive protests demanding the removal the GSDF base in Kumamoto. LMAO!!!
