Jesus, that sounds painful. Has the guy been arrested for attempted murder? This was obviously premeditated.

Wow! Wonder what brought on such violence...

Civil servants, they just don't handle criticism that well.

And his name is Madoman? He is a madman.

I think much of this barbaric behavior is inspired by violence on television. People get strange ideas and then, really, do they expect to get away with it? Well okay, in Japan the sentence for attempted murder is two years in prison, maybe. If you succeed, okay then it's five years.

What a barbaric country. On the other hand, this is human nature, the desire to harm others and not care about consequences.

I thought this was peacetime throughout much of the world. Apparently not.

People are certainly finding new and creative ways to torture and kill each other. Prayers to the man who is likely suffering horrible pain...

I think much of this barbaric behaviour is inspired by violence on >television.

Duh, when was the last time you saw someone doused with gasoline and set on fire, on TV? FAIL

People get strange ideas and then, really, do they expect to get away >with it?

Do you really think he cared about getting away with it?

Really? So the 99% of people who live in peace are to be judged by the 1% who want to kill or wage war............ FAIL

This clown probably has the article about those kids that lit up another kid over a bike and video game in America on his refrigerator door.

I wonder what the guy did to deserve this attack, if anything at all?

"gasoline-like liquid"

What, exactly?

Anyway, that wasn't very nice. Not very nice at all.

Sounds like attempted murder to me. Just awful, trying to recover from serious burns. The poor guy is going to have months of pain. I'm not sure there is a punishment that suits such a horrific crime.

IMagine that. A violent crime in Okinawa, and it wasn't committed by a uniformed American. Must be a first...

He goes to the victim's house (or near it, at least), sprays him with a flammable liquid, then torches him. Raise your hand if you think a heartfelt "Sumimasen!" is not going to cut it when he goes before the judge.

This is nothing new, per se. It's the MO de rigueur for bank robbers. Douse a teller and you have the necessary threat. Villains are an innovative bunch.

Fumio, I can assure you that you have now joined the ranks of the unemployed and a position of rotisserie to mankind will be hard to find.

Could have been 60% awamori that was set off by a ciggie. The 60% is mean stuff!

OK, I'm taking this as a warning - I am definitely going to pay my overdue city tax soon now! I hope the poor old fella gets well - and Javnation - I loved your scathing rebuttal of that other poster...FAIL!

I guess Okinawans really believe in strong government.
