High school boy kills himself after stabbing girl in Himeji

An 18-year-old boy committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest after attacking a high school girl with a knife on Sunday in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, police said. The girl, who was an acquaintance of the boy, was stabbed in the chest, but is in a stable condition in hospital, police said Monday.

Police said they received a call at 10 p.m. on Sunday from the victim's mother. She told police that her 17-year-old daughter was with her in their apartment when she received a phone call from the boy, telling her to meet him outside so that he could return an MD player. When the girl went out to meet him in an adjacent parking lot, he stabbed her and she ran back into the house.

The boy stabbed himself on the spot and died a few hours later in hospital, police said. He and the girl were reportedly dating.

Yep, and there are still people making comparisons with the rest of the world and saying, "it's worse in other countries." What a load of BS! There is a huge problem in Japanese society creating these kinds of sick murderous lunatics. I'm sure we all are aware what happened last year on June 8. - In other countries you can judge who will give you trouble and where you are likely to find it. But, in Japan it could be anyone.

Glad to hear the poor girl is doing ok. Where do all of these parents go wrong in raising there children??? I'd really like to know so my kid doesn't grow up to be a psycho... SERIOUSLY.

DISILLUSIONED: I think you should start an anti-Japan club or something.

Do we really have to get into a murder per capita argument here? Your argument wouldn't stand a chance if we did.

In other countries you can judge who will give you trouble and where you are likely to find it. But, in Japan it could be anyone.

Actually, in my opinion, in other countries there are WAY TOO MANY places and people who you can judge that will give you trouble... does that make it safer???

"But in Japan it could be anyone"????? I don't know where you are from, but have you forgotten about Colombine High School and several other college/university shootings in the US??? 9/11??? Not to mention all of the car chases, convenient store and gas station hold-ups and robberies, that end up with dead people that don't get national or international press because they happen everyday in "other countries"??? Like I said, I don't know where you are from, but it just seems like the only things that you mention here on JT are bad things about Japan... what gives???

Exactly some people don't get it, never will. These things happened so much in my country they've stopped reporting the minor ones. The national news usually picks up the story when enough people get killed, or when the victim is pretty. Local news reports for about a day.

I have to say that in Asia, teens tend to be less mature mentally than their western counterparts - there is almost a fatalistic attitude to things like rejection. It probably comes from the confucian philospohy of withholding or not necessarily wanting to rock the boat so to speak. I have experienced this typ of thing not only in Japan but in HK, Singapore and Korea.

I hope the girl is OK and recovers from this vicious attack by a psycho, violent man. As for the man...well, good riddance, we don't need your type in Japan.

Just be glad the Japanese youth have no access to automatic weapons.

Nihonjin need to stop emphasis on pride and replace it with self respect .

I was going to say woodwork, but this is good too

This is so very sad for the families of both the boy and girl. I wonder if self respect is the answer, maybe it is respect for others that is lacking. Very tragic.

Full moon out - brings out the loonies. Poor girl will have this memory the rest of her long life.

I can't comment on the rest of Asia but as for Japan I would tend to agree with this statement as well. In general, less mature and extremely sensitive to rejection/failure/criticism.

Well young love or maybe stalking doesn't end well sometimes. My guess is the boy wanted be more than an aquaintance to the girl he stabbed,

Sorry, I reread the story and apparently they were dating. Maybe she was ending it and he couldn't take it.

So, did she get the MD player back?

More seriously, glad shes ok, sorry hes dead, even if he is a nutcase. Would have been better for the nutcase to live, and get psychological help.

Suicides appear to be much higher than the norm in Japan (34.8 men and 13.2 women per 100,000 people), but intentional homicides (not accidents) are much lower per-capita (0.5 people killed per 100,000).

Glad to hear that the girl is okay. My prayer goes to the boy's family.

Social Skills and How to break up techinques were needed here. He probably read to much into their relationship and she like many girls are filled with sugar and spice.

In a very stress environment (no matter where you are), you got to release that stress/anxiety by working out. Whether it is sports or whatever.

Wonder how he stabbed himself? What size was the knife? Either way, glad to hear the victim is ok, too bad for the boy...could have gotten another girl and some help.

Yes this is the kind of slash story we need. His failure to kill her but he succeeds with himself. Sayonara A-hole. Get well soon young lady and try to forget this loser and hope you never have to go through a relationship like that again in your life.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ah, young love.

Honestly, I'd just as soon not see any slasher stories of any sort, but if we were to improve this one, it would be refreshing to read that in lieu of killing his girlfriend, then himself, he realized he was being melodratic/stupid/insane, and scrapped the entire plan, choosing instead to talk to someone about it, until he felt better about things. THAT would be refreshing.
