High school teacher arrested for taking videos up students' skirts

A high school teacher for a private school in Tokyo's Koto Ward has been arrested for allegedly taking videos up students' skirts, police said Monday.

Police said the 35-year-old man, who has been named as Tadayoshi Kaneko, was arrested at Asakusabashi subway station in Tokyo for taking video up a schoolgirl's skirt with a small video camera hidden in a bag, NTV reported.

According to police, a search of Kaneko's home revealed around 300 similar recordings. Police believe Kaneko may have committed similar crimes multiple times at subway stations between March and April this year.

No wonder Japan has such a lowe crime rate. With brilliant police work/deductive reasoning like that, it would be crazy for anyone to commit a crime.

lol a sneaky perv that one is xD

0 ( +3 / -3 )

What a scumbag.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

If found guilty, teachers that work with minors should be fired. They should not be involved with children on a dialy basis. Stay away.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Not had one of these articles about dirty teachers in the past few weeks now.

Stick to the lolicon anime!!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

So will he be fired of not???

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I feel sorry for the cops who had to watch the videos.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

I bet he's thinking "Damn... should have stopped at 300".

7 ( +7 / -0 )

When you have over 300 of those videos that must go beyond titillation and into the realms of addiction. Whatever the cause, I agree - man should not be working with children. Do they have a register here? In the UK these days you can barely walk your own child to school without getting police clearance first.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

That is disgusting. What is it about so many men in Japan who seem to not be able to handle standing next to a woman (or even an underage girl! ugh) without viewing her as a sex object? This guy should not only be fired IMMEDIATELY if found guilty, he should be jailed. I know it's not only Japan, but the fact that perverts on trains are so often treated like something silly, and the girls are told they should feel flattered because it means they're cute or something... it makes me want to vomit. It's like, groping and looking up the skirts of school girls isn't treated so much as a taboo, it's treated like something natural that men do. Japan seriously needs to step up and stop this, and no, cute little posters with an anime lady saying "yamete kudasai!" are NOT enough.

(they should change those ads to have the woman turn around and punch that hentai in the face.)

4 ( +8 / -3 )

Oh dear. Time to get a job as a garbo.....

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

If only they'd crack down on all the sites publishing these videos, people might not be tempted to take these photos.

-1 ( +3 / -3 )

I take it he is not married?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

This guy needs help, that is certain. If there was no evidence of selling or distribution, the sentence should be light - harm to the victims is minimal relative to a chikan where there is physical contact. Perhaps the police should do more to make people aware of what these pervs are doing. I've caught guys on the train and turned them in myself a couple of times, actually. All around you everyday as you commute - keep your eyes peeled. Recently, a neurosurgeon in Nagoya was arrested for the same thing, boggles my mind...all that education and training - flush.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

tmarie - So will he be fired of not???

Of course he will be. He is a 'private' high school teacher, not public. However, from the article, he was NOT filming girls at school, only at subway stations. Not that it makes it any less of a disturbing offense, of course. This upskirting is a bit of a plague in Japan. I've caught three guys doing it at train stations in the last year.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

What is it about so many men in Japan who seem to not be able to handle standing next to a woman (or even an underage girl! ugh) without viewing her as a sex object?

Lack of "corp-oral" education?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Maybe he needed it for the extra money and sell in the black market...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This should read ex-teacher.

1 ( +3 / -1 )

I am just curious as to what they do with the videos. The police officers that volunteer to go through every frame of footage just as guilty?

-3 ( +2 / -6 )

If only they'd crack down on all the sites publishing these videos, people might not be tempted to take these photos.

Maybe they should crack down on short skirts instead? If I flashed by bling everywhere and somebody grabbed it and ran, everyone would say I deserved it and condemnation of the thief would be sparse.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Seems like a really weird thing to be fixated on. How different can the 300 vids reall be?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Maybe changing the school uniforms would help?

6 ( +8 / -3 )

What needs to be changed are the penalities for the pervs (be it firing from public positions, imprisonment, registering as a sex offender, etc). Women and girls should not have to change their style or way of thinking for the sake of pervs.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I can't believe these things really happen.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Solution to upskirt videos? Thigh-length compression shorts under the skirts. If the girls don't want the shorts showing below the hemline, they'll go with a lower hem.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Girls don't need to change nothing, guys like that need to know how to handle themselves or they just can't get a woman for themselves so they got hide in the shadows with their fantasies and view school girls in such a bad way like that...sad situation. After seeing so many Koreans and of course Japanese girls in the shortest of knee knocker sock or whatever other princess cutsey fashion, you don't see me acting like that.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I think the "Japanese Porno Industry" promotes this kind of ludicrous behavior.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

guys like that need to know how to handle themselves

And if they can't, we put them in jail. Looks like the expensive solution to me. These guys are getting nabbed all the time! They keep the police pretty busy.

And why are females absolved of all responsibility for the temptation? If that is what equal rights means, I would like to take a step back. I don't like having random females flashing their bodies at me, and that goes double if its illegal to date them. I don't like it, just like I would not like it if people got in my face and yelled insults at me for no reason and I was not allowed to hit them. By the way, I think its illegal for people to harrass you in the latter way. Why not the former? Where is the balance and consistency in it? And yes, as a man, I do feel harrassed. There is a time and place for viewing lots of skin, and its not on the street or the escalator. And 90 percent of the time, it starts with the girls.

The crime is not 100 percent preventable, but it is highly preventable. Especially the school uniforms need to be axed, not because the skirts are too short. Because the girls themselves make them that short. Why let crime run rampant if you can prevent it? Its money down the drain and police manpower that could be used on more important things.

Tell me you're joking. Women can wear WHATEVER they want. That still DOESN'T give anyone the right to grope them or take pictures of their underwear. The women are doing nothing wrong and shouldn't have to be ashamed of their bodies because some men lack the social skills and human decency to handle them. If you actually think a woman who wears revealing clothing (especially the school uniform she is required to wear) deserves to be chikan'd, and is the same as someone screaming insults in your face... you seriously need to rethink a lot of things. You're basically justifying chikans and saying it's the girls' fault, and that's frankly disgusting.

Women can wear WHATEVER they want.

Well, I could just as easily say men can photograph whatever they want. Saying a thing with a demanding tone does not make it right.

That still DOESN'T give anyone the right to grope them or take pictures of their underwear.

Why are you dragging groping into this? Oh, I see what you are doing! You are muddying the waters. This is about voyeuristic photography and nothing more.

and shouldn't have to be ashamed of their bodies

Out of left field. I am proud of my body. I usually wear pants down to my ankles and shirts down to my wrists. Nothing to do with pride.

You're basically justifying chikans

Left field again. Perhaps if you stop trying so hard you will be able to think straighter?

and saying it's the girls' fault

I think it was pretty clear I blamed both.

deserves to be chikan'd

Didn't say that either. You little rant of putting words in my mouth is so rude and outrageous, I sincerely hope you get a reprimand from the moderator.

And since when was flashing legal? It probably isn't in most places.

Er, you can't hit somebody if they were yelling insults at you (unless they were threatening you).

Well, I could just as easily say men can photograph whatever they want. Saying a thing with a demanding tone does not make it right.

Er, no they can't... some things go against privacy laws.

I think that you may need to first understand the laws first.

Aliasis Jun. 12, 2012 - 12:53PM JST Tell me you're joking. Women can wear WHATEVER they want. That still DOESN'T give anyone the right to grope them or take pictures of their underwear.

Fair enough... but it's summer, so I insist on equal treatment for guys! A nice short light kilt would be wonderful in this weather.

... however we BOTH know that there's a clear double-standard. If a guy work a skirt he'd get arrested for public indecency, and they'd slap on extra chargesif it was short enough that his underwear and "package" was visible if he sat down wrong.

I was on an elevator in Tokyo last year, just a few steps behind a high schooler, and her dress was rolled up so hard that her panties and backside were clearly visible. I felt sexually harassed, and I spent the entire ride up the elevator examining the guard rail with intense interest, embarassed by this girl's complete manners.

So frankly Aliasis, girls do NOT have the right to wear whatever they like unless men have the same right. Until that happens everyone should adhere to publically accepted standards of dress. Keep your underwear to yourself, I'm not interested in seeing it!

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Sexually harassed by a girl wearing a short dress?

... however we BOTH know that there's a clear double-standard. If a guy work a skirt he'd get arrested for public indecency, and they'd slap on extra chargesif it was short enough that his underwear and "package" was visible if he sat down wrong.

No, he wouldn't. Men do not get arrested for wearing skirts. But I'm glad you brought up double standards, because that's interesting - WHY is it okay for men to be topless, but women can't? Why is it "too sexual" for women, but not for men? It's one thing to have genitalia covered - but men certainly aren't arrested for having "package bulges either if everything is actually covered up. It might be social taboo for a man to wear short shorts in public if he has hairy legs, but that doesn't mean it's illegal.

I felt sexually harassed, and I spent the entire ride up the elevator examining the guard rail with intense interest, embarassed by this girl's complete manners.

Sorry you felt harassed, but you were NOT. You were in no way sexually harassed by a girl wearing a revealing outfit. Not even close. Even if this girl's crotch was visible, you were not being harassed, and anyway it sounds like only her underwear was visible if your story is even to be believed. Groping someone on the train? Harassment. Taking pictures up a skirt? Harassment. A high school girl wearing a short skirt standing next to you on an elevator? Oh, please.

Point is, this teacher is a scumbag, and he's the only one who did anything wrong in the above scenario. The girls committed no crime, and there's really something wrong with society if we have people condemning the girls and saying it's their fault or whatever.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Usually I am expecting a policeman to figure as perp in a story like this. Now teachers are getting into the act too?

So what is your beef? Society also looks at it differently, if you go topless or if girl does. Are you just discovering that the two sexes are actually different?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Ok! So this week a pervert high school teacher, give JT a few hours and we will be reading about some pervert off duty police officer drunk on the Saikyo line??

It made me feel uncomfortable. Ergo it is harassment. Simple. Groping someone is an example of ASSAULT. Taking pictures is an example of ... well, I'm not sure what law it falls under, probably assault.

If you can't understand the difference between assault and harassment when maybe you shouldn't be commenting.

You felt sexually harassed? How? Was she taunting you with her panties, teasing you? No... you were aroused and embarrassed, so you redirect your frustration and blame the girl.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Something making you uncomfortable is not the definition of harassment. Harassment needs to involve someone DOING something to you. According to a legal dictionary, the definition is: "A course of conduct directed at a specific person that causes substantial emotional distress in such person and serves no legitimate purpose". A girl in a short skirt is NOT doing anything to you. It's your own issues that are making you uncomfortable, and she's not responsible for your sensitivities. Sorry, but you're not a victim. And considering the topic of this article, it's a little inappropriate to compare your very traumatic experience on the elevator with men in positions of trust and authority taking photos up the skirts of underage girls...

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Two points:

The guy is clearly a perv and a peeping Tom, armed with technology. No need to beat the dead horse.

While the girls indeed have the right to dress as they please, it's better to be more circumspect especially considering the inherent risks. A little modesty goes a long way.
1 ( +1 / -0 )

Back on topic please.

No! Then the terrorists win!

What is it about so many men in Japan who seem to not be able to handle standing next to a woman (or even an underage girl! ugh) without viewing her as a sex object?

Perhaps when women here stop thinking they are ONLY sex objects or moms? I am certainly not blaming the victims in any of this but christ, the high school girls here with their short skirts, cakes on make-up... There is more to life than being thought of as "cute" but sadly, many don't seem to understand that.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Do any of you remember your first love? Second one? Third? How did that experience affect your love life even well after college? Do you find other women attractive because they remind you of them? I am sure many of us do. And I am sure many of our first loves were in high school or earlier.

Now imagine that when you saw them back then they wore the same uniform, every single day at school. So uniforms in general remind you of those days and those girls.

That is why Japan needs to do away with the uniforms. Its begging for trouble. I am really glad that I did not grow up with those uniforms. I really don't need the psychological baggage. Who does?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I think the girls should be given the option of wearing skirts with built in pants underneath that cover their underwear. Elementary school girls that attend schools that require uniforms have these sort of "protection" pants and I believe that would alleviate the problem. Just saying.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

new entrance exam for teachers, cross O if you like to make upskirt videos, or have an eeg test?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tmarie - good point. High school girls are brought up in a culture which seems to admire childlike helplessness and even stupidity in women. They often dress and act in ways which play up to these 'ideals'. The future of Japan should not be wearing tiny check skirts. Im not condoning or trying to justify the behaviour of sad specimens like this but the whole High School girl look hardly inspires respect.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

They dont have the intellectual ability to see what they do is sick and wrong.

Sick and wrong are relative terms. Intellectual ability can help one identify smug cultural bias though.

Japan is full of sicko males who go around filming up girls skirts and reading comic book kiddy porn.

Full? If that were true, the act would be legal. And do we really need to drag manga into this? Oh, we are back to cultural bias.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I do actually support changing the girl's uniforms. Not because it's ever their fault, or the outfit's fault, but it does seem inappropriate for schools to continuously enforce styles that have long since become fetish symbols. Girls and boys should be wearing identical clothing, tbh - Japan has a long way to go on eliminating the social gap between genders and this is a good way to start. There's no reason why girls can't be wearing pants, and making them wear a "female uniform" that includes a short skirt seems frankly archaic. The fact that chikan target girls wearing these uniforms on the train doesn't help, either.

THAT BEING SAID, dressing modestly does NOT eliminate sexual harassment or assault. I've been groped on the train in Tokyo when I was wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt. Perverted scum will be perverted scum no matter how women and girls dress themselves. Modest dress might stop a couple of leers but it will never stop all of them.

"They dont have the intellectual ability to see what they do is sick and wrong." Sick and wrong are relative terms. Intellectual ability can help one identify smug cultural bias though.

Yes sick and wrong are relative terms, they are also terms that describe a teacher (a person in a position of authority over kids) who takes pictures up the skirts of school girls. If you think thats a smug cultural bias l would suggest you may have issues that need addressing yourself.

"Japan is full of sicko males who go around filming up girls skirts and reading comic book kiddy porn." Full? If that were true, the act would be legal.

Yes full, how often on this site do we read about people getting caught for filming up peoples skirts, groping females on trains etc etc. There are several stories a week usually, and it seems like a major issue in this country. And as others have suggested part of the issue is the obsession with cuteness and mens inability to see women and girls as anything more than sex objects.

And do we really need to drag manga into this? Oh, we are back to cultural bias.

Nah not cultural bias just observation. This culture allows and accepts that garbage then feigns shock when some sicko male cant tell the difference between make believe cartoons and reality. So cultural bias nope not at all.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

That's true. Pervs will be pervs, but sense drawing their attention, either.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

That should read NO sense drawing their attention.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

These sickos would get a blast out of the girls who I see waiting at bus stops on the way home from work: very short black or grey skirts as part of their uniform. Yet I don't read every day about pervs in Scotland taking up-skirt photos with their mobiles. In fact I can't recall a single report.

Seriously this has nothing to do with the way the girls dress... it's about how these weirdos have their brains wired.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@edwardstark It's true that Puritan cultures like the UK and the US are still quite squeamish about sex but here we are talking about the sexualisation of minors. These skirts are all about sexualisation. Is your cultural relativism totally comfortable with this?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I think the girls should be given the option of wearing skirts with built in pants underneath that cover their underwear. Elementary school girls that attend schools that require uniforms have these sort of "protection" pants and I believe that would alleviate the problem. Just saying.

How about allowing them the option? That being said, I worked at an all girl's school and when I asked if they wanted to wear pants, they all said no. Why? Skirts are "sexy" and "cute". Trousers are not. High schools who hitch up their skirts know full well that they'll get attention which is why they do it. What they don't "get" is that they are not only getting attention from the guys they want attention from, they're also getting attention from chikan and losers.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Tmarie is just stating the obvious. I don't think a girl can wear a ridiculously short skirt in the middle of winter for example and complain about men looking. But, on the other hand, I don't understand the compulsion to take videos like this guy. So, in a strange way I feel sorry for him. He must have known that he'd eventually get caught, so why keep doing it?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

School girls don't wear short skirts in school and all must follow the dress code which is no higher than just above the knee. They hike them up once out of school.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Remember, this country is still back in the 1800's mentality where is a man's World. During the Super free incident at Waseda, some politician boasted on Japanese men virility. Some even condoned the alleged crimes committed.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

School girls don't wear short skirts in school and all must follow the dress code which is no higher than just above the knee. They hike them up once out of school.

I've heard this as well. The fact is that the lower the skirt hemline falls, the harder it is for upskirt viewing/photography to take place. Girls who roll up their waistband to make the skirt shorter are making it EASIER for the pervs, so they must not be too worried about it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Remember, this country is still back in the 1800's mentality where is a man's World.

I think you skipped the part where the man was arrested? Plenty of people who aren't Japanese make similar comments to what you quoted and yes, some of them are politicians. None of them define the country nearly as much as the fact people get arrested for this type of behavior and lose their jobs too. In fact, I bet more people lose their jobs here in Japan for crimes like this than most places. If he was an office worker, I bet he would get canned too. And in Japan, lots of luck suing to get your job back. But I know. Its no fun thinking Japan is in line with your own thinking. Its much more fun to just get on their case.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

But, on the other hand, I don't understand the compulsion to take videos like this guy.

I don't understand what is so hard to understand. The majority of internet traffic is porn, and most of that is pictures and video of the female body for men to look at, and there is tremendous variation on that simple theme. There are entire sites devoted to upskirting just as there are sites devoted to obese women. You don't have to like it to understand it. Men fixate on certain things, and some of those things are legal and some aren't. And most of men don't even know why we fixated on a certain thing or can offer a clear explanation why.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

What a dummy. All that trouble just for a few upskirts. Keep your fetish stuff in your bookmarks and just behave.

Hahahaha, how old are the minors?!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

School girls don't wear short skirts in school and all must follow the dress code which is no higher than just above the knee. They hike them up once out of school.

Nope, not true. It might be the rule but it isn't enforced in many schools. Why? Because the teachers don't want to fight the battle. Why? Because the girls will go home and complain to mom and mom will call and complain about the teacher. Make-up, nail polish and earrings are all banned but.... I saw a HS student with her mom yesterday. I swear to god I could see butt cheek. I actually wanted to stop and ask mom if she thought what her daughter was wearing was appropriate for someone her age and someone whom I guessing is not a "working girl". How mom could allow her daughter to walk around like she was is beyond me. But then again, most of these girls get this line of thinking from... their moms.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

tmarie,

then I guess I live in a "hood" were schools enforce the dress code. There are several large girl's school. Most are wearing skirts below the knee, until they come out.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Must be good schools! The one I worked at and the ones I've been to... not sure much. Some are good but I'm willing to bet that most schools turn a blind eye to many of the rules they have when it comes to female uniforms.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

yawn old story .. once a hentai always a hentai

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What do the phsychologists say.... how do these guys get the way they are?

It seems some people are absolutely dedicated to NOT hearing the truth they speak. Its inconvenient. And that is why you don't hear much about what they say, but rather hear blanket statements issued by psychological orgs to cover their butts while quietly filing the research where the agenda driven ultra-feminists probably won't stumble on it. Lets not forget the U.S. Congress has issued legislation against certain completed psychological research. Its like medieval times all over again! Getting to the source of the problem would deny some people targets and scapegoats. For some, its better for the problem to continue, so they have something to moan about and make money in the process, scum suckers that they are.

So we'll be seeing boys in skirts too right? They aren't making them hitch them up higher either. Won't it be grand when we can finally stamp out sexual desire altogether and all live happily ever after in long white caftains as equals?

prison is really to good for him

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm not sure about the rules for high school students, but I think allowing students to wear shorts under their skirts if they wish to is acceptable, if it isn't allowed already. This guy is disgusting, really. I think Japan is too light on this kind of stuff, if someone were caught doing that in Canada there would be serious jail time.
