Hiroshima man arrested for stabbing neighbor

A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his neighbor at an apartment building in Hiroshima.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. Monday, when the suspect, Yosuke Suzuki, suddenly approached a 48-year-old man living on the same floor and stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Suzuki then called police himself, reporting the crime. He was arrested at the scene as soon as police arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but he is conscious and his wounds are not life-threatening, police said.

The motive behind the incident is not yet clear, though initial police reports say that Suzuki had complained of his neighbor being “noisy.”

I can relate to nearly losing one's cool due to an overly noisy neighbor, but the ironic thing is that had Suzuki himself called the police as I did and complained then they themselves would have had a talk with the noisy neighbor and it would have ended much better.

I'd love to read about the noisy neighbor suing the government and construction company not regulating and building sufficient sound proof walls. I never had this problem back in the States unless the were throwing a kegger next door. Always the easy buck, cutting corners, kickbacks. Pathetic.

People here are getting scarier and scarier. Just look at the body count in today's reports alone. "He was noisy, so I stabbed him."

Well, hope he finds his cell mate less noisy, and hope he makes less noise when he gets the same in prison. Lock him up!

Not sure why you think prisons in Japan are violent? They aren't, at least that's what my ex con neighbor reports. Quietest neighbor I've ever had. Which is good as he is 185cm and well north of 100kgs.

Another passive-aggressive, ticking time-bomb :(

passive aggresism and inability to communicate (what the japanese call komusho) is a big problem here, which leads to crazies like this

Ahhh, that whole "harmony" (japanese Wa) thing is paramount though. Lord forbid they sit down and have a reasonable discussion or create the potential for confrontation & dispute. They'd rather attempt passiveness till they reach the threshold. Welcome to Japanese Culture.

Hello Wc626

"Ahhh, that whole "harmony" (japanese Wa) thing is paramount though. Lord forbid they sit down and have a reasonable discussion or create the potential for confrontation & dispute. Yes welcome to Japanese culture.

The first comment posted here was the best. In all fairness though, if you are "Rock or Metal" fan and your neighbor refuses to turn down his " Wham's Greatest Hits" ...

then they themselves would have had a talk with the noisy neighbor and it would have ended much better.

The cops often times will NOT get involved and it also has been known that involving outsiders (police) can escalate a problem too.

Better yet to start with your building association, and moving up from there, chances are there are others who have the same problem with this guy and just gaman-suru.

I can have a bit of sympathy here. I once had neighbours adjacent to my place (not in Japan), who lived in the oldest house in an otherwise nice street. About six each night they would begin blasting out the most horrendous devil-like music - trust me, it sounded like the devil having an orgasm. Then they began building giant bonfires in their garden and throwing aerosol cans or something similar into the fire resulting in massive explosions. Noise control were regular visitors but it did not deter them. They just borrowed another sound system from elsewhere and would continue until 2 or three in the morning. Once when I asked them to tone it down a bit one off their party had to be restrained as he was desperately trying to split my skull with a very large and heavy glass jar. It was a nightmare! Stab them? I used to fantasise about firebombing them and killing them all. I did, I'll admit, eventually - and somewhat intoxicated - fight back. About 8 people (and I use the word people loosely) lived there. Two of them seemed to have jobs and would leave around 8 each morning. So one night, or early morning to be correct, I put a heavy duty padlock on their gate. Irresponsible to do really, but great entertainment to watch from my upper floor window the next morning.

Eventually I took a more pragmatic approach and invited all adjoining neighbours to my house to discuss the problem. An amazing diverse bunch who between us tracked down the owner of the house who lived about 20 k's away. So we took a delegation of about 25 people out and descended on his property to demand that he end our torture now. Took along any number of videos and pictures to back our case. Credit to the guy, he had us all in his backyard and promised it would end. 6 weeks later the neighbours from hell were gone. The house got knocked down and replaced with nice town houses in keeping with our borough.

So although stabbing, firebombing, AK 47 attacks and other violent reprisals were resident in my mind at various points, a bit off common-sense and collective power did the job.
