Hiroshima police extend reward offer period for student's unsolved murder

Hiroshima prefectural police are extending the application period for a reward to anyone who can offer information leading to the arrest of the murderer or murderers of a 19-year-old female student in Shimane, who was found murdered in Hiroshima in 2009.

Currently, a reward of up to 3 million yen is being offered in the case of University of Shimane student Miyako Hiraoka. The offer will be extended for one more year.

Hiraoka was last seen on Oct 26, 2009, leaving the ice cream store she worked at in Hamada City. Her severed head was found in nearby mountains on Nov 6. Shoes belonging to Hiraoka and plastic bags believed to have been used to transport her body were found nearby, and information on a suspicious vehicle was followed up, but police have no solid leads as to the identity of her killer.

From time to time, police hand out fliers at JR Hamada station. The flier contains a picture taken by security cameras of Hiraoka on Oct 26 after she finished work, as well as other photos. A map indicating her workplace, accommodation and where her body was found was also included.

Police are currently offering reward money in connection with 21 unsolved cases across Japan, the NPA said.

Glad to see they are still looking for the sicko that cut her up and scattered her in the mountains.

Definitely, definitely, definitely... this was one horrible crime.

Some immature tw4t trying to imitate the Bone Collector. This person is deranged and needs to be taken out ASAP.

I'm wondering if the killer has struck again. Or maybe he has, but the victim's (or victims') remains haven't been found yet and she/he/they are being treated as missing persons.

Hope they catch the person. Usually when you hear about crimes like this the criminal has some type of souvenir. Does anyone questioned remember anything about what she had on her last time she was seen?

Have they released some of the details of her death? Like did she have drugs in her system or were there any marks of a struggle. Was she tied up or anything? How did she die?

It just seems a little weird that the trail has gone completely cold.

Sad case. It would be great if they got something, but it's been three years.

What about the girl who was murdered from Hatsukaichi High School 3 years prior to this...That is I believe the longest unsolved murder in Hiroshima.

Yeah littlebear, the Hiroshima police don't have a very good track record...

Wow. The day after a re-post from a year ago this pops up.

Some folks in Law enforcement already think they know who did it. The police botched this.
