Police believe the killer of Tokyo housewife Kumi Arai may be in hiding out in the area.
Arai, 34, was stabbed to death at her Itabashi apartment in Tokyo at around 3 p.m. on Nov 21. Her body was discovered by her husband. Arai died from several stab wounds to her chest and back.
Police said that a man in his 20s, dressed in a suit, had been observed pressing the intercom button at Arai's apartment earlier in the afternoon. Shortly after her murder, an unidentified man, matching the suspect's description, withdrew 250,000 yen from Arai's bank account using a convenience store ATM near her home in Toshima Ward.
Police said Friday that the same man was caught on security cameras at Ikebukuro Station two days after the incident. Following the lead, investigators say they found footage of a similar-looking man at several stations in the vicinity, Fuji TV reported.
Police said the image resembles a man in his 20s who was previously arrested for theft, but have not released any further details about him.
Police believe the killer is responsible for a number of burglaries in the area because footprints left at each scene, including outside Arai's apartment, are a close match, Fuji quoted a police spokesman as saying.
The suspect is thought to be familiar with the area and police say they believe he may reside in the vicinity.

You would think that would be the most practical thing to do, especially if this man is to believed to be in the area. How are the people of Itabashi supoposed to protect themselves.

It is strange they haven't released his picture or at least set up a number of officers in exits that he used. He's not the Jackal and going to change his routes.
Also disturbing that they can track this person at more than 7 stations. Make you wonder if they are using facial recognition software ... over a million people go through those stations per week. No way a few officers could sit an pick one person out of such volume.....we are being watched and tracked.

Bulletins on TV report that the guy has been captured. He's a Japanese man, aged 22.
