'Hysterical' man removed from hotel in restraints; dies later

Police in Tokyo's Meguro Ward said Tuesday that a man who was arrested and dragged out of a hotel as he yelled at the top of his lungs, died 20 hours later.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on Sunday. TV Asahi reported that police received a call from a hotel in Ohashi, saying that one of the guests was making an unbearable racket. Six officers were sent in response and upon arriving at the hotel, they found a 37-year-old man in his room screaming and violently lashing out. The officers restrained the man and bound his hands and feet, before carrying him out from the hotel and into a squad car.

According to police, immediately following his arrest, the man, who was from Wakayama Prefecture, suddenly lost consciousness and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead 20 hours later.

Police said an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Sankei Shimbun reported that in the man's hotel room, police confiscated several small plastic bags filled with white and brown powders. Investigators will also conduct tests to confirm the ingredients of the powders.

" seems like bath salts have made it to japan. "

Exactly my thought. It seems some of those "loophole" drugs are worse than the illegal stuff.

Wow, so many drugs experts posting on this story... anything you want to confess to, mmm?

Whatever this guy died of it clearly had a horrendous effect on him... nasty business. Remember kids, don't do drugs!

Wouldn't be surprised it was insecticide. Many are neuro toxins and can even affect humans. They can cause disorientation, tremors, convulsions, twitching, and paralysis even death.

Brown Powder ?, it appears in the abscence of any needles mentioned, he likely SNORTED some Opium. We shall see.

Very difficult to OD on ice. I'd imagine it's thespeedball combo that killed him.

I wonder if we will find out the cause of death

Ice

Typical of the poorly trained Japan police - bundle off the problem to end the disturbance rather than calling for an aid car. He may indeed have OD on something, but that is pure negligence on the police to have him in custody for 20-hours without seeking medical help. They should have taken him to the nearest emergency room.

And you can simply ignore what the reactionary Sankei Shimbun reports. A meteorite could hit a house in Japan, the police wouldn't have a clue but would tell the SS that Godzilla did it and they'd report that.

Whatever has happened, he has got what he deserved. As will every weak soul and evil doer.

RIP doesn't really work for me. Maybe something about the rather obvious obtuseness on display would serve you better. Just a suggestion.

Since everyone who commented so far has a negative rating, I will refrain from saying anything. Just RIP.

Most likely just common table salt and the more nefarious "塩こしょう". While the first, if snorted without experience usually results in the user screaming mildly, often about past girlfriends and the intense nasal pain, it is the second that will really knock you about. Certainly not for the faint-hearted. Small lines for even the most lion-hearted of brave JT posters. Fair warning.

I'm sure the powders aren't salt or dogtooth violet starch.

Yet again very suspicious behavior by the Japanese police force - if he was acting out of control and there were, what appeared to be, drugs in his room why was he not taken to hospital?! Was he even checked over by medical trained staff after arrest? People that young don't just suddenly fall unconscious and die without any indications of difficulties with breathing or heart rate etc.. Was he being monitored? Was he still physically retrained?

Definitely sounds like a bath salts reaction.

Loophole drugs send man loopy. RIP.

Japanese news often refers to any kind of stimulants (including cocaine and methamphetamine) purely as stimulants when reporting stories like this. It hasn't been released yet but I am guessing that what will be later announced. The idea is to scare people off drugs of any kind but in my personal opinion more education would be helpful. I think the dealers often tell the buyers "Oh, that stuff people die from on the news is the other stimulant not this one!". The only drugs I know of that appear brown in color are heroin and amphetamines and I can't imagine heroin causing this kind of reaction.

Sounds like someone was tripping out then overdosed.
