International Criminal Court head keen to set up 1st regional office in Japan

What? This news item stricks home like a lightning bolt from the Hague. I have always thought that the International Criminal Court has only one home. For the ICC to have a branch in Japan or any other country does

weaken or lessen its trusted world renowned authority.

Please, NOT in Tokyo, it will just create even worse concentration. Fukuoka or Osaka.

This may come as a shock to you but no, we don't attack countries just because an American citizen is charged and tried under their laws.

Japan does extradite its citizens. International marriages with abducted children from other countries is a problem for their fathers.

How will it work will Japanese laws? Would they try cases here? The building and running costs paid for by the ICC?

but some major countries such as the United States, China, India and Indonesia, are not members.

Wonder when the US would become a member, and when it will ratify unclos too

Look ip the “Hague Invasion Act,” a law passed for the express purpose of doing just that. Of course it refers only to the ICC, not local laws.

I’m not sure that Japan gives off a good image when it come to “JUSTICE “. Perhaps somewhere else might be better, somewhere that has a just and fair legal system, especially for non Japanese.

A presence in Japan might be as good thing. It’s not like Japan has done much to enforce Hague convention orders on international child abduction, even though in theory they are bound to do so, having ratified the treaty into law.

Not to mention the hostage justice, and the fact that prosecutors can actually LEGALLY hide evidence from the defense to get a conviction! LEGALLY! AND the fact that Japan is 1 of 3 countries in Asia that does not provide the defendant with a lawyer upon arrest- the other 2 being China and North Korea!
