Between the Australian child molester and this bloke, creepy is the word.

what a crazy case of megalomania. The fact that so many developing nations are so willing to accommodate his mania. Poor kids...

Super Freak, Super Freak, he's supah-freahkay ....

That said, if he didn't break laws, what's Interpol's beef? Are they going to apply European mores to this Japanese guy?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Shigeta’s current whereabouts are unknown ... Not far you can far him in Shanghai with name changed

Shigeta is in Japan; ask his father where he is. Whilst they are at it someone in the media might ask his father why he allows his halfwit son to spend his time and money in this way. Why doesn't he have him cleaning out the company toilets, or doing some other useful activity?

Are they going to apply European mores to this Japanese guy?

I suspect Japanese mores are better than this. But what is notable is the absense of any serious discussion of the issue in the Japanese media. There is no real sense of moral impropriety or outrage. How are these 16 individuals going to receive balanced upbringings and loving parental care and guidance? Who is going to counsel them when they are trying to sort out relationship issues in their late teens and early twenties? Do people agree with Mitsutoki Shigeta's view, as expressed by his lawyer, that things are fine because they are all legal babies with birth certificates? Is this just a problem for Thailand?

What the heck was this guy trying to do? Start a 'living collection' or staff a Japanese offshore factory in a decade and half or so? Clearly, this guy a miso soup or rice short of a bento box. I'd love to hear this guy's explanation however, I'm pretty damn sure being drunk will not be the excuse this time.

he's like octo-mom on steroids.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Very disgusting. Was his intent to populate the world?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He is crazy, but I wonder what crime they want to charge him.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

This is guy is psycho. I don't care how much money he has, he cannot possibly take "care" of all these children! He's building a cult, plain and simple.

Scrote: Whilst they are at it someone in the media might ask his father why he allows his halfwit son to spend his time and money in this way.

The kid owns 1.44 pct stock in his dad's company. Plus other investments. So he's already a multimillionaire and likely his dad can't take it back even if he wants to. After all, the dad's now got 13 new grandchildren, minimum.

Shigeta is a good argument for compulsory vasectomy.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

10-15 babies a year until he dies. If he lived to be 80 that would be about 600 children. Building an army??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

All the kiddies and nannies were found in a condominium. Surely a misnomer!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

What is the problem? He wants babies, that he is taking care of! What is illegal here? Are we living in China?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

On a positive side... he would help out with the population.

He really does have the money required to fund that small army...

A bit creepy IMO

(cynicism on) Do they still have a baby bonus in Japan? Quite a nice little earner. Knock 'em out in Bangkok and export them to Japan. (cynicism off)

As for Shigeta’s motives, Kukunashvili said he told the clinic’s manager that “he wanted to win elections and could use his big family for voting,” and that “the best thing I can do for the world is to leave many children.” Kukunashvili declined The Associated Press’ request to talk to the clinic manager.

He may be eccentric but why we immediately assume that this represents criminal activity i don't know.

That last paragraph is what gives me pause.

“These are legal babies, they all have birth certificates,” Ratpratan told Thailand’s Channel 3 television station. “There are assets purchased under these babies’ names. There are savings accounts for these babies, and investments. If he were to sell these babies, why would he give them these benefits?"

Indeed, why create a very obvious paper trail, including savings accounts, for children he intended to sell? And why use a legal and fully transparent fertility clinic if he intended to sell the children? This case makes very little sense from top to bottom, but it wouldn't surprise me at the end of the day to find out that this guy wanted exactly what he said he wanted - a ridiculously large family.

Still, too darned odd for the authorities to not investigate. The father had to know this would draw some attention, whatever his motivations. I'm curious to know where this guy's wealth came from. How can he afford all of this at 24 years of age? As they often say in TV police dramas, follow the money.

And if they do, it will be interesting to see if they want to indict the king of Saudi Arabia too? Because this guy is small fry compared to that.

Nice one .... but the current king's father made a huge population ..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe he actually said that he wanted to win erections...

-3 ( +2 / -4 )

As long as he supports them so be it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sounds like something a rich nut would do in the Middle Ages. Regardless of the legalities, his motives are just stupid. It would be far easier and cheaper to pay people off. Plus there are no guarantee that his kids would vote for this sicko dad. Just imagine the paperwork if he had 600 kids. The names, the lawyers, the tax, the daddy phone calls, education, inheritance, etc.....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

he also want to win an election through a big family? wow. for sure nothing wrong with using your own money in any way you want, but this one is just a misuse of it. shows something wrong there. also wondering why his first lawyer has declined to defend his case.

Japan is an aging society and the guy is trying to increase the dwindwling population. but at the same time this is suspicious!! why not make them is Japan and why has he disappeared?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Weird, creepy, unfathomable. Maybe crazy, Yet there seems to be nothing illegal about it, Has to be the strangest story I've hard.

poor guy, he suffers from an old disease that now finally has a modern name: selfie-cloner

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I feel sick to my stomach reading this stupid news! Why on earth would this idiot 24 year old want so many kids?? Was he some kind of ONLY CHILD and is trying to make for all of his loneliness?? That is what POKEMON is for! Seriously, with so many CHILDREN all over the world needing to be ADOPTED and this Japanese idiot trying to make hundreds of his own MINI MEs??? This is just WRONG!! Poor kids now being born to??? The father of this Japanese idiot should also be arrested, all of these idiot fools should be arrested!!!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yeah...I was also thinking on the same lines as Gloria, the guy took to heart the aging population!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's like this guy is running a puppy mill, or something. Except that children are not puppies.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

As long as no crime is established or abuse proven, I see absolutely nothing immoral or wrong with some guy wanting to have as many children as he wants, provided that he can take care of every single one of them. Since when is a natural drive to reproduce a crime? Gimme a break, you PC drones!!! Not everyone is a Western liberal open-minded middle-class Starbucks-sipping organic-food-chewing college graduate. Remember that our forefathers used to have long families, I mean over ten children. My grandparents had eleven children before my grandmother hit her thirties, and that was the norm, not the exception. So this is by no means unheard of. Quite the opposite, actually.

You know what's sick? Imposing your mores on other people. And you know what's even sicker? People who say they don't want to have any children! I should know cause I'm one of them. However, I'm honest enough to admit that is truly unnatural. Every single creature in nature wants to reproduce, even the lowest bacteria. I respect both choices because I'm all for individual freedom, but I can't understand why, among all things, you'd be disgusted by what this guy's doing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

lasolitaria: How exactly is Shigeta taking care of his children by hiding in Japan? If he wants to be a father he has to get involved in raising his children; he has to be there, changing their nappies, washing and feeding them. But he isn't doing any of that. It sounds to me like he's either extremely thick, or immature. Such a person should not be having children.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Many Japanese men don't see their families for weeks, yet they fully provide for them as best as they can and work hard so their children do better than they did.

Um, if Japanese men are such wonderful husbands, fathers and providers, then why are Japanese women refusing to marry and breed with them in droves? Even though the only alternative for single Japanese women is lifelong spinster hood (because single motherhood is not accepted here), yet they still prefer that?

The value of human life goes down, down, down. Down, down, down. Down, down down. The value of human life goes down, down, down, when will it stop??!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This man is like a squirrel with too many nuts, eventually he would forget where he put them all.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

That guy have some really mess up issues. A true father is always close ta his children; taking care of them, teaching them, and becoming a role model for them ta follow. This lousy miscreant thinks money can solve everything, but it will never buy the love and understanding of a child has for his/her parent.
