If they get suicide bomber woman back they may use her again to detonate explosives because that's the way she like to die so the just plying nerve game and they like to create pain and then execute....

I don't understand why would people hate Storm's comments, he is absolutely right, I won't be even surprised if ISIS has Japanese members, Japan is also a haven for internet homebud luney otakus, I am 100% sure that some of these luneys are interested of mass killings.

JWithers

Unfortunately there are those among us who live with a false sense of security.

Amen to that, some Japanophiles think that talking about a possible terror in Japan means you are criticizing Japan. They are so naive about the possibilites and the REALITY!

Yubaru

are we going to be attacked?

We never know. But one thing for sure, ISIS will find a way to attack Japan. Now i return the question to you, what makes you think that Japan will be fine after all of these? remember OLYMPICS is coming soon, ISIS might be thinking about hitting flock of birds with one stone.

What will you do if a crazy neighbor of yours who owns guns gets mad at you, threatens your security ? will you just ignore his threats and go on and act as if nothing happened?

jcapan

Unfortunately there are some among us wearing and hoping the nanny/big-brother state protects them from the eva-doers"

Indeed!

@Storm is correct.

Yubara you are out of line. There were a few other people in the shop at the time who also noticed this guy and were looking around with a wondering look on their faces so it wasn't just me.

Then all the people in the store were prejudiced towards the person you are referring too, and I suppose you checked with them too to get their thoughts.

By the way, my comment is no more out of line than your seemingly racist and prejudicial comments. You probably have no idea what it feels like to stick out, have fingers pointed at you, and be thought of as being guilty by association based upon your looks.

It is NOT a good feeling, and you probably never stopped to consider that just maybe YOU and the other people in the store made the person in question feel uncomfortable and unwanted by YOUR staring and vibes of fear, ignorance, and hatred.

It's easy to pick up, believe me, one feels it in the air. You could have very well been the problem.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Storm....

I saw a guy the other day too, looking suspicious, long hair, snapping his head back and forth, looking totally out of place....OMG....are we going to be attacked?

Wait that was you right?

"Noticed either a Pakistani type or middle eastern looking person last night in the super market, had a beanie pulled right down to his collar, a face mask, blue jacket and a back pack, he was acting and looking suspicious, not shopping, didn't even have a shopping basket let alone a shopping cart,. while I was sussing him out he noticed me and scurried away , I tried to keep an eye out for him but he had slipped away. Seriously strange behaviour and the look in his eyes was not of your average person on the daily shop."

It is frankly far more terrifying to me that your home country decided you were intelligent enough to be issued a passport. Please, for the love of christ, crawl back under your rock and seethe quietly for the remainder of your life.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

People here need to be awake and aware as there is also a chance that these terrorists could strike right here at your local justco or 7-11 or train station or..........they have struck london, spain, france, Australia amongst other places why do you think japan will be immune?

We know they would love to hit the US but cant successfully so why not japan especially now.

Noticed either a Pakistani type or middle eastern looking person last night in the super market, had a beanie pulled right down to his collar, a face mask, blue jacket and a back pack, he was acting and looking suspicious, not shopping, didn't even have a shopping basket let alone a shopping cart,. while I was sussing him out he noticed me and scurried away , I tried to keep an eye out for him but he had slipped away. Seriously strange behaviour and the look in his eyes was not of your average person on the daily shop.

That woke me up to the reality, they could be amongst us and seeking a soft target be aware.

For propaganda, of course! It would be another victory of the glorious jihad over the "crusaders". The psychological war is as important as the physical one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it is stupid to think that ISIS will not hostage any Japanese tourist anymore because Goto is dead (in case he got killed)...Remember they are already in their top enemy list, and who put them there?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

They could have done with money. It was just a case of taking the notes serial numbers to track back the money when it was spent and find the whole financial supporters of the regime. Another way was to use a technology well known used in ATMs which spreads tint on notes when its stolen so its worth nothing. Two things makes me feel all the information behind this IS is very dodgy: terrorists must know they could be cheated and second they know the government would not risk its status quo negotiating with them. So the message to the public is .... you see for your government life of an innocent is worthless.

CGB Spender:

" Well that changed the cards! Goto is offered in exchange for the terrorist while the pilot is kept as a backup insurance. If Jordan doesn't agree they will both be dead. If they agree there's a chance Goto will be released. I hope for him that he can make it! "

So you hope that is is officially stated that the life of Japanese independent journalist who went there against government orders is more valuable than the life of Jordanian pilot who went there on government orders? Wow!

You better believe that this would not go over very well with the Jordanian population.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's interesting how far they are willing to let themselves get pushed in this case, extending their deadline twice and changing their conditions. This woman must be very important to them for them to break their usual course of action.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

GW

it will endanger hundreds of Japanese living in the middle east, Africa etc, a very BAD idea!

These Japanese are already endangered after Abe's announcement of the 200 million aid to crash ISIS.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Well that changed the cards! Goto is offered in exchange for the terrorist while the pilot is kept as a backup insurance. If Jordan doesn't agree they will both be dead. If they agree there's a chance Goto will be released. I hope for him that he can make it!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Now you done and got ISIS confused, Jordan.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

ISIS is playing this in a very clever way. Now they offer to release Goto for the jihad murderess, while keeping the pilot. That means Abe will use all of Japan`s diplomatic and financial muscle to push the weaker Jordanian government to accept the deal. While of course the internal pressure in Jordan is that if any deal was to be made, it should at least involve the Jordanian pilot.

Divide and conquer! ISIS put itself in a comfortable position, watching the Jordanian government being squeezed between internal and external forces.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You are talking as if this is one time deal. If Japan doesn't pay these people and send a clear message that these guys were in the wrong place at the wrong time you'll live in fear of "sleeper" cells here in your homeland.

Huh? You are the one suggesting to open pandora's box by paying ransom for two guys who happen to have put themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time with no official nor diplomatic status.

Do you expect your country to pay $100 million for your release if you get kidnapped? I sincerely hope you are not THAT naive.

I can't imagine Japanese people spending a dime to travel to ME countries now. So I disagree with your fears. You'll have to worry more about ending up like France.

Like this is a no-brainer. There are plenty of other country's that strongly warn their citizens to avoid the ME, and it's not like the ME was much of a tourist spot for Japanese anyway. It ain't Hawaii that's for sure.

If ISIS kills this hostage I think it may be the right time to ask for Abe's resignation.

Geez, one was killed already, and by your logic that seems to me to mean that you think Abe should be half-way out the door already.

He should be asked to resign for the mishandling of this crisis that has resulted in one Japanese citizen lost already. It really doesn't matter WHY there were there. What matters is that they are free men and like all other Japanese citizens who have the right to travel and pursue their dreams or ambitions they still have done no wrong.

I can not believe that there is anyone on this planet this naive to think that one citizen, who knowingly went where he was warned not to go gets killed.

The position of leader of any country would become a revolving door postion if your way is taken. No country anywhere can be responsible for all of it's citizens, especially the one's who have suicidal tendencies. This is just plain nonsense.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Jordan is not going to accept to exchange the prisoner with Goto. They will prioritize their own citizen. IS also knows this. I fear the pilot is already dead. IS is getting the publicity they want, which is a great shame.

I am getting very uncomfortable with the way the press is handling this crisis. I would have preferred less exposure and let the governments talk behind closed doors instead of giving these terrorists the satisfaction.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@JWithers: They were warned repeatedly that the area was dangerous and they should not go. They went, as you said, as free men. The only person involved in this situation who had to go was the pilot from Jordan as he was doing his job.

Part of us being in a free, democratic society is the choice to make stupid/risky/bad decisions.

A country can't be responsible for the poor decisions made by private individuals on a private scale. Neither of these people were working on behalf of Japan in any official capacity.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

As far as that money being using to buy guns and weapons...again....we can track that.

Ignoring the fact that it appears you watch too many movies, I don't imagine the families of the victims killed by the weapons bought with the 'paper' will be particularly comforted by the fact that we knew exactly where the weapons were bought.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You can blame Abe for the visit to the Middle East but Isis would have held Goto hostage either way. Abe just gave them a convenient reason for holding him. If you want someone to blame you can point back to west supporting, training and giving the Syrian "rebels" weapons to fight Assad. Abe just wants to be a world player but he is way over his head in this game.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

A real "Cry Games" movie where human life is simply a gamble for these barbarians!!

JWithers

well said!

Ah, Islam, the religion of peace!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JWithers

I don't agree with you. Abe is not responsible for this crisis. His decision to offer non-humanitarian aid to the Middle East was correct. And as for his handling of the situation, he is doing exactly what I would have done in an extremely difficult situation.

As for your assertion that his foreign policy has put Japanese lives at risk, that is incorrect. Both Yukawa and Goto were kidnapped long ago and were kept as pawns for the right moment. Since more than a year ago, the government has issued a travel alert, strongly urging its citizens not to go anywhere near Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Furthermore, Goto made a video in December in which he said he takes full responsibility for whatever may befall him.

Besides, every government's foreign policy is going to put some of its citizens at risk in some form or another.

Abe almost certainly will offer his condolences to the victims' families when the time is right, probably in private. But remember, if you know anything about Japanese society, you'll know that the families do not expect an apology from the PM. Quite the opposite, they are apologizing to society for all the trouble their sons caused.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The Prime Minister should held a press conference by warning all Japanese residents to not go to the Middle East under any circumstances. Make it a mandatory national TV program for all channels, phones, and more. No need for the minister to take such bribe from the terrorists. All you can do is pray that they can somehow escape.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@ReformedBasher

There is NO evidence to call either one of them illegal combatants and therefore must be treated as citizens who were travelling overseas at the time.

It is Abe's foreign policy that has put the lives of Japanese citizens at risk. The buck stops with him. If it were someone in his family he would have paid already. He would have been in line at Western Union with the country's credit card.

Furthermore he should go to the families of both victims and formally apologize asking for forgiveness.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

These jerks need to be wiped out.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

IS wants exchange of al-Rishawi and Goto but Jordan wants exchange of her and the airman. Why doesn't IS want exchange of her and airman though IS is able to get her back whichever comes first?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Ever the attention whores.

If ISIS kills this hostage I think it may be the right time to ask for Abe's resignation.

Because Abe personally told them to go? He loaned money for airfares?

Women are second class animals to these people. Why would they want her back?

She's a symbol. If she returns, ISIS have a won a "victory". (Seeing they failed miserably fighting the Kurds at Kobane, this is more their speed)

But I guess you are right, apart from that, she'd be raped/enslaved/executed/everything if she wasn't famous and did something "wrong" (most probably trivial and arbitrary stupidity) back home.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

After initially setting a $200 million ransom for Yukawa and Goto’s release,

It is all the mess of Abe for visiting middle east and offering 200 millions for funding the corrupted middle east nations. If IS is keep blackmailing for kidnapping Japanese citizens, there will be no more money to pay.

Japan is not USA which is police man. It is none of her business for intervening the never ending blood shed of middle east. Abe has blood in his hands for promoting for Japanese citizens becoming halal meat or Big Mac. Tokyo Olympic will be not enjoyable due to security concern. It is all the fault of Abe for his aggressive foreign policy.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

We have the technology to track every dollar. If Abe had been saying YES there wouldn't have been a countdown.

As far as that money being using to buy guns and weapons...again....we can track that. We know exactly who is selling weapons. Even Japan is selling weapons.

While this administration holds on to it's money people are dying.

And about Jordan's situation. They have their people to negotiate for too. You can't expect them to think only in the interest of Japan.

I'm not inciting fear when I talk about "sleeper" cells. It's real!!! Where have you been? France, U.S, and various other countries around the world. You don't believe it exists because Japan hasn't been touched yet.

I hope I never have to say "I told you so but you didn't listen".

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"You are talking as if this is one time deal. If Japan doesn't pay these people and send a clear message that these guys were in the wrong place at the wrong time you'll live in fear of "sleeper" cells here in your homeland"

Rank fearmongering nonsense. Abe would be proud.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@Yubaru

You are talking as if this is one time deal. If Japan doesn't pay these people and send a clear message that these guys were in the wrong place at the wrong time you'll live in fear of "sleeper" cells here in your homeland.

I can't imagine Japanese people spending a dime to travel to ME countries now. So I disagree with your fears. You'll have to worry more about ending up like France.

Japan has the Olympics coming too?!?!? Yes, you need someone other than Abe to decide wisely.

If ISIS kills this hostage I think it may be the right time to ask for Abe's resignation.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

@JWithers It's very clear here that Abe had the chance just to use paper to free these guys. seriously you have NFI, that paper will have to come in the form of $US and probably even gold bullion, ISIS arnt stupid. 200million will buy a mountain of guns, ammo weapons. which will be used to slaughter many more innocent, Iraqis, Sirians. you basically saying one japanese life is worth many other non Japanese lives. Some people just cant think or see outside there little bubble they live in

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Women are second class animals to these people. Why would they want her back?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

himajin,

surely you cant expect another country to sacrifice their own for the sake of another country's prisoner.

That said I don't think there should be any hostage exchange as it will endanger hundreds of Japanese living in the middle east, Africa etc, a very BAD idea!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

The deal was the woman for Goto, and Jordan is trying to change the terms of the deal. It would be a shame if it got Goto killed.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

I think sister Sajida needs a nice pot of polonium tea before she is handed over!

2 ( +5 / -3 )

To paraphrase a saying frequently invoked by the late President Kennedy, success has many fathers, but failure is always an orphan.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

ISIS keep changing their conditions, are they subtle or just plainly confused? Seems like they lost the balance of power in this negotiation, desperate for this woman bomber to be freed.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Never negotiate with terrorists, never. I hope Japan tells ISIS to release Goto and to never expect any nation to ever negotiate with them. This is the only way to reduce kidnappings.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

It's very clear here that Abe had the chance just to use paper to free these guys.

'Paper' that would have been turned into weapons, weapons that would have been used to kill others. It would have been irresponsible to have used that 'paper' to free Goto.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Should have implanted a micro beacon under her scalp or some place in her body before letting her go. Then you can get the whole group at once.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

These videos should only be watched to look for location clues there can't be any negotiating with isis on this nonsense I feel bad for the two hostages but they are not going to make it

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The world must unite to stop these disgusting blood thirsty butchers, they are not worthy of being in the human race and need to be exterminated

1 ( +5 / -4 )

It's very clear here that Abe had the chance just to use paper to free these guys. He wasted the opportunity making things much more complicated.

Paper as in money? It would be foolish of anyone to think that money alone would end the problem. If Abe had paid the ransom, using taxpayers money, Japanese all over the world would become instant targets for any and every nutcase that was looking for a fast buck.

14 ( +16 / -3 )

After initially setting a $200 million ransom for Yukawa and Goto’s release, the Islamic State group, which rules swathes of Syria and Iraq, changed tack and demanded Jordan free Rishawi.

It's very clear here that Abe had the chance just to use paper to free these guys. He wasted the opportunity making things much more complicated.

-16 ( +3 / -19 )

This is so disgusting
