Many jobs lost and many without the means to survive-there must be a lot of anger out there..

After yesterday's report about the money they received from the government, why am I not surprised?

Shhh,,,,, the unemployment rate is under 3% ! You'll scare people with the truth!

Millions of households in desperate situations and this company gets THAT much money. Is it any wonder people are incensed?

18 ( +19 / -1 )

The media:No way this could be in any way connected to justified public outrage to a blatant case of political graft and corruption benefiting an already entitled corporate entity

as a forgotten populace suffers in an economic depression.

Is it hardly surprising when people’s businesses are going under but this firm gets huge sums of money from their buddies at the LDP.

14 ( +14 / -0 )

No surprise as the government is doing nothing to help the smaller business and the lower income citizens. Poorly handled to have paid Dentsu so much money

to help run a coronavirus aid programme via a scheme that has been described as opaque.

Well we now know why the stimulus payments are so foggy. 50/50 chance the people will never see their payment.

Bureaucrats and the ruling party know the anger will fizzle out in no time and come time to vote, the populace will vote overwhelmingly for the LDP.

Sorry, the people deserve what they are getting.

Agreed, LDP will be winning a landslide even if they steal 100% of the stimulus package, which they probably will be stealing 90% of anyways.

The problem with Japan is that many people, especially with the more traditional families, still views certain families as rightful rulers and will vote them in no matter what they do. Japan may have a democratic process, but powerful political families can still rule with absolute authority.

When I wrote that Japanese should protest the scheme money, I meant peacefully. Although, I really hate Dentsu, I don't want to see anyone physically hurt but the bigwigs getting badly hurt in the pockets would work.

When it comes to large Japanese companies, Dentsu is certainly among the worst of the worst. [Really, they are awful.] But stuff like making bomb threats isn't cool either.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Muchas as I despite the machinery of rampant capitalism, making threats is all wrong.

This is just an brand building pr stunt ;)

The company is the focus of political scrutiny having received almost 70 billion yen in government funds to help run a coronavirus aid programme via a scheme that has been described as opaque.

How exactly does an ad agency run "an aid program" for this disease?

I think there is a part of me that feels for Dentsu. Searching, Searching... Nope. None. Carry on.

@otherworldly

You say that, but my company's SME support claim was processed and paid in full quickly and efficiently. There was nothing foggy about the process, or the administration of it.

In fact, the whole thing was completed before I even received the application form for the individual stimulus money. It would appear that Dentsu is doing their job significantly faster than the government.

Also worth noting: there may or may not have been impropriety in the bidding process (and certainly the fact that there were half-a-dozen intermediary companies raises legitimate alarm bells), but Dentsu are being paid to perform a service. They aren't being given the money for nothing, which is what a lot of news stories such as this are implying.

They aren't being given the money for nothing, which is what a lot of news stories such as this are implying.

If you had bothered to read the story that was featured here a few days ago, it was clearly stated the 8 man company that gave dentsu the contract was created by Dentsu and to think your company got its money fast or other companies took part in the bidding doesn't negate the fact that dentsu was dubiously handed the contract. Why should an advertising company be handling aid cash disbursement and not locak governments where this small business are located.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No one has such bomb, maybe fireworks at most. No bomb there. This is going to be a practical joke.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@drlucifer - not sure why the "if you had bothered to read the story" attitude. I don't doubt that they were dubiously handed the contract - perhaps you could have bothered to read the part where I said "raises legitimate alarm bells"

As to the issue of why an advertising company - well, they aren't only an advertising company, they do all sorts of things. Why not local governments? Well, one reason is that local governments appear to be unable to distribute the individual 100,000 yen payments in a timely manner.

I'm certainly not sticking up for the contract process, about which I only know what I have read in the news, which does not sound good. But it is not strange to outsource big jobs like this (which, of course, is why this cabal of companies have gotten together to bid for the work in the first place)

I do not condone terrorism or such kinds of threats at all, however it doesn't surprise me as Dentsu is well known for being a black kigyo that overworks its employees (leading to a very famous suicide case a few years ago)...it sounds like some sort of vengeful act...
