I hope they're considering statutory rape as well. Young boys are often pushed to "be a man" which apparently means having sex and bragging about it. It leads to them easily being sexually assaulted by older women. It might not seem like a big deal when they're so young, but it can lead to trauma as they get older and realize that they were taken advantage of, right? People don't talk about rape of pre-teen boys by older women so often...

When I was a young man living in Japan, I passed out drunk at a house party (it was a sleepover at a pretty big house). I woke up in a fog flat on my back with a Japanese woman riding away. She was someone I knew had the hots for me but I wasn't interested. I wasn't too happy about it, but it wasn't traumatic. I'm sure it is for some guys,

If you were inebritated and couldn't consent, and she 'did it' to you, you were RAPED by her. That's how Bill Cosby raped over 60 women. And when boys get raped, they're not old enough to understand or even comprehend WTH is going on. And men tend to mentally 'block it out' for years.

, the majority of male sexual abuse cases, at least worldwide, are men attacking other men. My thesis for a UNICEF project focused on male survivors of sexual assault globally. Over 90% of the time, the attacker was also male. This does not, of course, discount female attackers, who deserve equal punishment. However, it is absolutely something to be aware of, I think.

There are cases of older women, older girls sexually assaulting younger boys as well. Some of the older women are teachers, councilors, day care center workers, nurses, etc. It can and does happen.

The issue is unfortunately an international one as we are experiencing the same problem here in the UK men and boys being abused sexually or violently. They are to afraid / embarrassed to report it to the authorities because of the stigma attached ' males, being the dominant sex, attack women ' not women attacking men.

It is a huge problem in the US Armed Forces right now. The Award-winning film 'The Invisible War' is about that and the ratio of rape is about even for both genders. Men are more afraid to report it because of the risk of shame or humiliation from it. When I served, it could lead to being labeled as a 'homosexual' whether you truly are one or not (gays were verboten in the 80s). Fortunately, that factor has changed and the VA is working backlog to correct that for the gay veterans. And now they're giving free rape counciling to ALL veterans regardless of their discharge status.

I remember an incident when I was in Japan. A Japanese guy came on to me then went as far to grab my arse. He was drunk, but after I knocked him to the pavement he became sober quickly!!

Ah yes, gotta prioritize the men and boys in the country. Never mind the rampant disregard for the girls and women.

Mr. Kipling, you are right. Although women absolutely do attack men (Amber Heard being a more recent example), the majority of male sexual abuse cases, at least worldwide, are men attacking other men. My thesis for a UNICEF project focused on male survivors of sexual assault globally. Over 90% of the time, the attacker was also male. This does not, of course, discount female attackers, who deserve equal punishment. However, it is absolutely something to be aware of, I think.

Women attacking men sexually is extremely rare.... why this article doesn't state it is MALE on Male sexual violence they are talking about is very odd.

@gogogo your right, also their needs to be a special dept set up in all of the police dept ( probably not kobans) where the police officer's need to have special training on how to deal with the minor to the more serious sexual assaults allegations, the last thing a victim need is a policeman making jokes or letting other people know that xxx san gets beat up by his wife, thus potentially leading to embaresment etc. If a dept was to be set up like this it would encourage more people to come forward especially if they know that the allegations will be treated seriously and in total confidence, security and giving support to the victims.

Courts will have to treat/deal with the perpetrators more severely as well.

Better late than never but it's tragic it took them until 2022 to realize that boys and men can be victims if sexual violence too and to do something about it.

Japan's welfare ministry is creating for the first time a survey specifically focusing on boys and men victimized by sexual violence

Took a lot of time for the ministry to recognize the need of this survey.

All sexual abuse needs to be properly quantified so stronger measures can be put in order to stop it, but understanding that males frequently refrain from seeking help is a very powerful reason to focus the survey into understanding the situation in better detail.

As mentioned, that care centers only exceptionally attend men is a huge and urgent problem that should be corrected quickly. I wonder how long it will take for the results of the survey to be translated into actions.

Seigi - should be - But...?

Johnny Kitagawa - a known sexual predator of boys who was lauded by Media Inc, never had justice served upon him.

His power was so great in the industry that the mere mention of him pulling his "talents" out of shows, tv., media etc saw him as essentially untouchable.

The crime as equal to his was the silence.

No doubt not only the entertainment industry has many cases, but also the sporting world and education to mention just a couple.

I think that's probably a fundamental difference between men and women.

Johnny's Entertainment will be in trouble!

LDP "Let's be seen as caring and up to date" campaign swinging into full gear even as more public funds are shifted away from public services to buy weapons (you can be sure they won't allocate much resources to actually treat male victims of sexual violence)

Looks like The entertainment industry might be in for shock. But I doubt it. Because rape of young boys is a cultural thing. Best not to speak of it. Better to focus on a positive look a boy band dancing, we all feel better.

Seems like something someone thought about following the Johnny Depp trial. Like because Depp raised awareness in regards to Minamata, some Depp fans working for the welfare ministry put this survey together. Not saying its not an issue, but the timing seems a little suspect.

Hope it makes its way down to local police. I've heard stories of men going to the police after an assult and they get arrested because the other person says they were the victim.

Butter late than never, 50 years behind the rest.

It's not the fear or the shame, it's the mentality behind the desk.

Randy...

It's about time women stop getting a free pass.

You will probably find that most of the sexual assaults of men are by other men.

18 ( +26 / -8 )

It happens.

Men are also victims of domestic violence.

It's real.

It's about time women stop getting a free pass.

An agressor is an agressor.

It’s almost like they’re going out of their way not to use the word “rape” in this article…

Odd in this age of “equality”
