Consumer demand strong due to currency 'real assets' power destruction of all currencies, especially the Yen, thus the criminals more motivated to meet this demand.
Turns out endless Central Bank Money Printing and Global Proxy Wars destroy currencies - obvious to many.

China is the world's leader in disregarding IP rights and production of counterfeit products. This despite China being a signatory to the following international agreements:
Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property (1985)
Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (1992)
Madrid Agreement and Protocol (1989 and 1995)
Patent Cooperation Treaty 1994
Trips Agreement 1995
WIPO Copyright Treaty 2007
WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty 2007
If China wanted to, they could shut down all counterfeit production with the push of a button. But it's an industry that only hurts other countries so they do nothing about it. E-retailers like Aliexpress, Temu and Shein to a lesser extent, all carry counterfeit products mixed in with legitimate ones.

Amazon,too!
Saw a perfect copy of Oakley cycling glasses on their site just yesterday.

Yes. Both Amazon US and Amazon JP also carry some counterfeit products but they will usually remove them when they are notified and become aware. EBay on the other hand is notorious for carrying counterfeit goods and doing nothing about them even if notified.

Online Retail Giants without mentioning names !!....along with second hand shops are the main suppliers and sellers of these products.
You no longer need to go undercover to find Major Brands FAKES thanks to the internet. It's everywhere out in the open Online, In Auctions, Used Shops, and in small private shops.
WoodyLee
Even major department stores are now turning a blind eye. Tenants that are selling Fakes are paying top $$$ in rent money to get these spots and legitimize their businesses.

Amazon (and other online shopping sites) has a lot ot answer for too. So much is counterfeit or just utter rubbish now. These conglomerates don't give one iota.

Because it is the world leader in manufacturing. It are above 30% of the world' share and its only accelerating. So it makes sense.

The usual countries named, the ones with poor labour laws run by governments with a low moral compass

Best grass roots market research? Markets the crime syndicates are chasing for business, as they know the consumers FAR better than the Govt. Idiots.

Not rocket science, Japan had approx. $40K per capita GDP in 2000, and approx. $30K per Capita GDP in 2024
Take into account $ inflation and $ real asset purchasing power losses and Japan's 'adjusted' 2000 equivalent GDP now approx. $10K per capita and that's being generous/very conservative, likely $thousands less.
Any surprise crime syndicates busy counterfeiting?
Turns out Poor people don't buy 'real' brands!

The china-nese government itself promotes lying and cheating , even to its own people. Read my post here on JT:
https://japantoday.com/category/features/food/how-china%E2%80%99s-appetite-for-salmon-could-reshape-global-seafood-markets
"Chinese government permitted rainbow trout to be labeled and sold as salmon"
Basically the china-nese government is promoting FAKES.
Sticking feathers in your buttocks doesn't make you a chicken.
"..we found that many Chinese consumers could not distinguish between domestic rainbow trout and imported Atlantic salmon in blind testing... "
Basically, their government is allowing their own people to be FOOLED. If they couldn't tell the difference between real salmon and fake salmon, what's there to stop the sellers from charging their own people the same price as their fake salmons ( ie trouts)
.."But when informed about the origin, testers’ preferences shifted strongly in favour of imported Atlantic salmon.."
ie, even china people don't prefer their own country's product.

Why are we not surprised, LOL
China does not respect property rights, even amongst themselves
